Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 10/06/2011 - 8:26 AM

This may not take off but, it would be fun if it did.

PLEASE READ THE REQUIREMENTS PROPERLY OR WE CANNOT DRAW YOU

SKETCHERS

You can use ANY persons avatar who has given their full permission below and do an image from it in your own style. However abstract is not allowed as we must see the person in the drawing.

If you have an avatar up and are willing to let someone practice their sketching by drawing it, then please add your name below along with this statement

I give permission for someone to sketch my avatar I am using on this forum and I also give permission for that drawing and avatar to be placed on 1stAngel Arts Magazine and attach a link to a Facebook page or a Google+ profile

RULES

The avatar is the largest size you are allowed. You are not allowed to ask for larger images at all or offer them That is against the rules. However you can do what I did, print out images.

LOL "The image you sketch must look like the avatar" and if you can't draw?(JOKE)
My camera is traveling until Wednesday or Thursday,so I can't.
Can I do something on PS?
Does it have to look like a sketch?

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 10/06/2011 - 2:30 PM

If you do something in PS then you can just take the avatar and change it. Not really the point of the exercise.

Even if you cannot draw you can have a go at this. It doesn't have to be perfect, just have a look of the avatar you are copying

Posted by: Angelina Vick on 10/06/2011 - 3:38 PM

I think it's a great idea. =) LOL...I doubt what I would do would be recognizable though.

If it helps, you can see a larger version of my avatar at:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/49073236@N00/6156771195/sizes/o/in/set-72157624914566390/
(Posting flickr links won't get me booted, will it?)
If I edit avitar sized images, my results are always crappy. But I'm a photographer, using photographic editing techniques.
If I were to attempt this, I would work on a large image, and resize it to an avatar as my final step.

If you can make something out of this at avatar resolution, I am very impressed!

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 10/06/2011 - 4:13 PM

Firstly Gregory I can only see a paint brush as your avatar as I don't think you are actually logged into your artist account properly

Secondly I said NO LARGER IMAGES are allowed. Only the avatar size here or on the profile page

Posted by: Lara Ellis on 10/06/2011 - 4:14 PM

I would love it if someone creative could sketch my avatar, I can't draw to save my life Lol! That's why I take pictures I guess ;-)

Are there no sketchers out there who wish to do some avatar sketching?

Here is the one I had to finish of +Google member Seruzeus Simon Seamount.

Now I will play with a couple here lol

WE NEED SKETCHERS

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 10/07/2011 - 8:22 AM

I can only draw the people who have pasted what I asked them to paste. It gives us the right to show your work both here and on the magazine. Otherwise we cannot do it really.

Gregory and Natalie are the only people to have done it properly :(

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 10/07/2011 - 9:15 AM

A note about these works for a couple of people who have asked why we cant have larger images to draw from

They are MEANT to be hard. That is the point of them. What can we as drawing people see, without having it thrust in our faces in a large sketch?.

They may not be perfect copies of a person but they are what we, the artist, makes of a small image. However you are allowed to stretch them to make a print out.

Greg, here is yours :)

I didn't state permission on mine when I posted it because I wasn't happy with it but now that I've relaxed a bit about it lol! ... if you would like to use it for your project I'll copy and paste the permit line now.

I give permission for my drawing to be placed on 1stAngel Arts Magazine.

http://artistphylliswolf.com/ ( still under construction. Just haven't had the time to keep working on it right now and still trying to figure out how to do things when I have! lol! )

Thanks, Abbie! I appreciate the inclusion! : )

Roger's point really hits home to me in particular in the way of not knowing anything about the subject. It's harder for me when I don't have any sense of their personality then I can't try to get any of their essence in it.

Posted by: Roger Swezey on 06/25/2013 - 3:35 AM

Roy,

If one is only using only one photograph to make a drawing with... all that will result is transference of the image from one 2 dimensional surface to another,,,,,In fact, the best way to copy that image is to turn the original upside down.....Since all one is doing is making a drawing of a photograph..and not a drawing of the person photographed.

All we can work from is the photos given...If someone is squinting from the sun.or has a perpetual squint (Clint Eastwood) how are we to know?

As to knowledge of bone structure...Again I insist that one has to encounter that structure in it's alive, 3 dimensional form to have any semblance of understanding the reality of the subject portrayed.

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 06/25/2013 - 8:05 AM

Lovely conversation but, may we get back to sketching those 2d images now?

I do not want the momentum lost

Posted by: Roger Swezey on 06/25/2013 - 10:46 AM

Am I cheating?

Art Prints.

By the way the original is a lot more bedazzling

Posted by: Sheena Pike on 06/25/2013 - 10:52 AM

Abbie it's a rainy day today...my daughter and I are just lounging around....so I might tackle yours today.....we will see

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 06/25/2013 - 11:30 AM

Very cool Roger and just in the rules of the game :D

Looking forward to it Sheena!! I am back on Jean's. For a little lady (in the image) she sure is hard LOL

Posted by: Jean Noren on 06/25/2013 - 11:39 AM

Roger, I think that is fantastic. You really caught the essence of the image with a few simple lines... or are those jelly beans?

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 06/25/2013 - 11:41 AM

mmmmmmm jelly beansssssss

A fun challenge and good work by all! I hope that more folks give it a go.

And kudos to those who had the decency (and basic manners) to give acknowledgement of the effort of the sketcher to attempt this challenge. (Thanks, Abbie.)

Posted by: Barbara Moignard on 06/27/2013 - 5:01 PM

Well, I am having a go - I've started one of Dale - she may not recognise herself though! I'll continue with it and post what I've done tomorrow.

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 06/27/2013 - 5:19 PM

I am not sure where the avatars are in my top post :|

However, I am off for an hour or two now and am going to try Jean again

It is in a password protected gallery - the password is 'community'.
I really don't think I will get much work doing portraits! Not human ones anyway - lol.

This is a version of Dale Ford as a cat. (Sorry, Dale)

I give permission for the drawing to be placed on 1stAngel Arts Magazine

Posted by: Isabella F Abbie Shores on 06/28/2013 - 9:07 AM

A puddy cat?

I love it! Very unusual and unique view on a beautiful avatar

Well done :)

Posted by: Dale Ford on 06/28/2013 - 12:41 PM

Barbara your take on my avatar is nothing short of genius! You must be familiar with my passion for cats as expressed in one of my galleries. In fact, my email is "Catdale", which would make a great title for this masterpiece. I truly, honestly love this image and would be delighted if I could somehow obtain a copy. Thank you for selecting my avatar and for doing such creative, inspired work with it.
Dale

Posted by: Barbara Moignard on 06/28/2013 - 1:43 PM

Dale, I will take a better picture of it over the weekend and would be pleased to email it to you. It may look better in monochrome like your avatar.
