Complaints About Shrunk Image Of Your Work?

Hi All:

I'm so frustrated with the shruk images of my work! I have a full flower in bloom, and in the shrunk version of the photograph, it has one petal of the flower cut off.

Does anyone have any suggestions? How do you feel about this? Can anything be done about it? How do you other artists deal with this dilema?

Thanks! Mary Ann

i don't get your question. the site doesn't crop anything off. you had to do it when you shot it or cropped it.

I don't understand either. The site doesn't crop at all except on products. (cards, pillows etc.)

I think she might referring to the tote bag and pillow because they are in the square shape and part of her image been cropped off.

I think she's referring to the square thumbnails, and yes it's annoying, especially for panos and off center compositions.

When they are displayed on the "Images" page they get shrunk. It seems to take the center of the picture, and cut off the rest. Unless you click on it you can't see the entire photograph. It does it to your head shot for instance too. I had to make sure I submitted just a picture of my face, if I had my whole body, it would show the center of my body! lol

if its the square preview, its an oh well scenario. if its the bag, that can be adjusted down. but this image is clearly cropped off or you shot too low.

the square you can't do anything about. centering the image helps. in the avatar, know its a square and adjust for that. but i looked at the image above and it looks the same on the main screen.

Alfred Ng - yes, that's another question I have -- why do some photographs end up covering the entire shower curtain or what not? While other photos show the curtain white, with a little square in the middle of it? It does it to the bags too -- sometimes just a little square of your work appears at the center of the bag?

if your image is really small, it can't fill the whole thing. this site allows for some very small sizes to be put on large things, the other sites don't do that. but if your pixels are all different on these, that would be the reason.

Mike Savad: the image above doesn't shrink it as much as they shrink the image when it goes on the "Images" screens when you join a group, etc. Or if they have a contest. Or if they advertise that first prise will go on the logo of the group.

the resizing of an image won't change the crop. it will only look smaller.

The images don't change on the image page if you mean YOUR image page on the profile.

The avatar is square and simply has to be accounted for.

David Smith - I think you understand what I'm talking about. Yes the thumb nails center the image. I'm on a few groups, and on contests, and a lot of people just look at the image page before they bother to vote, and also what photos to examine more thoroughly to see if they "really" like it - and to see it bigger. If you don't catch them with the first image - they're just going to pass it by.

Thanks everyone for pointing out on my Profile page it stays the same -- but that's not actually true -- because I have a photo of a Bananna Tree - or I call it a "Tropical Tree" and it cut the top off it in the smaller image.

If you want to look up Mary Ann Weger -- On my page there is a narrow black and white photo - and the top is cropped off!

Thumbnails are thumbnails, images are images. The thumbnails are just a taste to entice you to click to see the image.

people will be attracted to it if they like it. contests - are not important, they won't help you get that far, and it doesn't matter if you win or not. its up to you to make sure the smaller version of an image will also look good. its something you work on as you create them.

the smaller version is simply showing you what your entire image looks like. if it shows a cropped off image at the top, then that's how you shot it.
