Contests And Sales

Has anyone ever experienced a sale that you may have attributed to entering the work in a contest, having it on the leaderboard in a contest, or winning in a contest?
I do not believe I have yet I continue to spend a lot of time entering work in contests and feel the time spent may be better put to use in creating work.

There is no way of knowing if a sale is a result of a contest view. Many times the host of the contest will twitter and facebook the winning images , which will certainly drive more traffic to your image, but whether or not those people looking at the social media posts are buyers you will never know.

IMHO, it only takes a couple of clicks to enter contests, so I do it. It's not a big time-eater, so I do it. If it took longer than a couple of minutes, I would not bother to enter contests. Mostly I like to enter to see other artists work.

I've never seen a correlation, I do get more views when I participate in contests though.

there is no way to know 100% other than to know you enter and then get a sale a while down the road. but winning is not important. doesn't matter if you win or not. your better off advertising what you have outside the site. and when you have time, enter stuff anyway.

It was for me once, and it seems was exactly because of contest. All other cases could not prove if it was after contest...

contests might just be the most unique and helpful feature on this site - all other sites I frequent don't offer such a democratic tool to expose your work without being totally dependant on the curators benevolent taste.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in! I have decided that thanks to Jane ...it is only a few clicks and to Abbie who may have sold because of the contest entries that I will continue to do so.

I have placed and won several in several contest here, yes I get a lot of comments on my art, but as far as sales nothing. I have only sold 2 prints and that was a while ago but I do continue to enter because it does get your art out before a lot of other people who would not normally see it. Any way you can promote yourself cannot hurt because there are so many great artist here you are competing against and it only takes a few seconds to enter. Even though I don't sell a lot I still like the comments and I want to thanks those who do vote and like what I do.

I do believe that I had one sale that was related to a contest entry. The photo did not win or place in the contest, but shortly after the contest closed, I did sell a print of the image. Other than this one time though, I don't think that the contest entries have lead to sales and I try to keep my participation in contests ongoing.
