Taylor Swift, Princess Of Musical Justice

A few months back Apple introduced their new streaming music service by offering three months of free music and telling artists they would not receive royalties during that time.

No way, said Taylor Swift, not with my music you don't, and you shouldn't be shutting down recording artists. She withheld her new album from Apple Music.

Apple relented immediately. That's how powerful this young lady is. I thought it was very cool when Apple introduced this commercial today:

That's making lemonade out of lemons. Kudos to everyone involved.

To be straight forward with you Dan, I do not get the ad. She failed? Or she succeeded?

Why is she on iTunes? Three months free? Why? That is the last frame.

Why not just bandcamp? Or she does not have the talent to pull people to bandcamp?

Swift in a somewhat understated way is very influenced by Lorde on this track musically, not lyrically.

He means they moved past their differences and mutually worked on an ad together instead of being mad about it 4 evers.

so now swift is giving her music away for three months anew to anyone who joined iTunes? So she is getting paid by iTunes separately while others fully give away their music?

She is not worth it to me, but some young folks are hot on her.

She made far less money than Katy Perry last year, far less.

Thomas got it :-)

I think it is dumb to be on iTunes anyway.

Dan and Thomas,

Apple kind of had her where they wanted her. The DMA digital millennial act or whatever states that if an artist sells one recording on a service, the service has rights to sell as many copies as they like. So in reality she had to compromise with Apple and Apple made it worth her while.

I would never sign up with any other service than Bandcamp.

That was funny Dan, I was not expecting her to fall flat on her face.

According to this link, Apple caved in to her demand and agreed to pay artists during the 3 month trial period. http://venturebeat.com/2015/06/21/apple-caves-to-taylor-swift-will-pay-artists-during-three-month-apple-music-trial/

@Mario Carto. I only watched the video just now. When you said she fell flat on her face, I thought you meant metaphorically. LOL!

This is funny. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan, but I can't help but respect any celebrity who makes fun of themselves. Like when Jamie Fox was caught jamming to his own music.

Rashad,

Thanks for the link. On the inner link Swift's Tumblr post, she is very well spoken.

She did get her way. Or our way. We are artists as well.

Congrats, David. It took you eight posts to figure out what was going on but you got it!

Ultimately, it's an entertaining video by a sharp young woman who understands both the music business and her audience. I think it's very well done on multiple levels.

Dan,

You could have just stated that Apple was going to pay during that period. YOU PROBABLY DID NOT KNOW. It took someone else coming in here and discussing this properly,.

I was right to question what was going on, you were not getting to the point.

Dan,

Do you compose at all?
