What Have You Done With Your Christmas Tree?

I cut down an old (probably 20/25 years) Christmas tree (picea abies) a couple of years ago and had it cut into planks.
From these planks, I have just finished making this new bed for my daughter, and she likes it very much.
Have you done anything interesting with a Christmas tree?

Nothing, since I didn't have one to begin with, even if I did it would be plastic.

Great job on the bed, that must have been a heck of a Christmas tree though!

That's cool, Andy! I have a small artificial tree (3 foot) that I put on a table. What I do with it is put it back in the box and shove it in the attic.

But I like your idea better....Very nice!

Put it back in its box for next year.

most people only hold it for a few months... just long enough to become a fire hazard.

Normally I buy one with a root for Christmas. When the season is over it is then planted out on my terrain. About 50% of them survive.

It's sitting on my front porch now... It was one of those small potted trees you can get at home depot.

We leave the lights (mini bulbs) on it, fold the branches down, then wrap it in shrink wrap and store it in the attic. It's one of those fake 7' tall pencil trees, so it doesn't take up a lot of room. next season, get it down, unwrap it, fold the branches out, and it's ready to hang ornaments on again.

Andy: I love what you did with the wood from the tree. I'm sure there must be some residual Christmas spirit in there somewhere... (-:

Ours is plastic (our family has allergies). It goes in the attic.

One of our larger local parks has a mulching program for Christmas trees - if you live in Colorado, that would be Bear Creek Lake Park.

We had a 4 foot tall Christmas tree in our front yard...After Xmas we put the tree in the back yard for the birds to use as cover. It will stay fresh for a few months until Spring.

I gave up on real trees years ago - too much mess for the scent of a real tree. So mine got put back in it box and out in the garage for another year.

PS: if it were just me - there would be no tree.

Put mine back in its box and into the shed until next year. Refuse to have a tree cut down just for me to hang baubles from it. Had this one yearssssssss

Love that bed

@Andy - my husband does woodworking as a hobby and gets some of his oak, cherry etc from a friend who has a tree cutting business on the side

If you don't use it like Andy, you put it in the yard for the birds and small animals till spring like Robert said - we only have real trees and if I had any space left in my yard I would buy one with roots and plant it but I don't have the yard for it so the birds use it

I just love your daughter's Christmas tree bed!

Like many others, my artificial tree went in its sleeping bag and down in the basement for next year. I have a prized ornament collection, and the tree is by far my favorite thing about the holiday, so I splurged a few years ago and upgraded to a really fancy one from Balsam Hill. The one thing I miss about real trees from my childhood is the wonderful aroma, so I sometimes snip a fresh mantle bough from the live spruce trees in my yard.

I love it too, amazing work, Andy.

My two Christmas trees are fake trees, I store them in a closet that is so large, it's my watercolor studio. They stay lighted most of the year on a timer.

How clever, How handy! Andy, :) Your daughter must be thrilled. Most people get present under the tree not the whole tree. beautiful bed.
No one is handy in our home, I am little bit handy. my husband zero. Our trees has been removed by the Town cleaning crew in the first week of January.
We love the fresh smell of pine tree,

Back in its box, in the attic with the rest of the decorations. I love the scent of a real tree, but the prickles get everywhere.

Sadly there seem to be very few natural Christmas trees used these days.
There are some varieties resistant to needle dropping, the Nordmann being the most common. And if you use a rooted tree it can be replanted in the spring.
Aparently that eco-friendly substance - plastic, is de rigueur now.

@ JC....Make a whuppin stick.

LOL...oh my goodness....enjoy a little spanking do you LOL

I plant my table top Christmas trees come spring...usually around 2ft or so.

I've been on my farm for 25 years...I have lots of trees.

But not all were evergreens...:-)) fruit trees make good x-mas trees too.

Cheers, Barbara

If anyone is interested, check with your local fish and wildlife dept to see if they use [real] christmas trees as habitats for fish.
