The colors and shapes create an energy that is unique to African art. Your "Face of Identity" is a good example. The way the shapes bend out from the center pulls the viewer's eye in different directions. We really can't look in just one spot because our eyes want to keep moving. The variety of colors and patterns create vibrancy and excitement. It's always seemed to me that African art is all about energy.
