Wild Horse in the west desert of Utah, USA

The water moccasin, North America's only venomous water snake, has a distinctive blocky, triangular head; a thick body; and a dangerous bite. Water moccasins rarely bite humans, however, and only attack when threatened. They are semiaquatic, so they're happy both swimming in water and basking on land in their native range in the southeastern United States.

Lilies are tall perennials ranging in height from 2–6 ft (60–180 cm).

Lilium (members of which are true lilies) is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers.

The flowers are large, often fragrant, and come in a range of colours including whites, yellows, oranges, pinks, reds and purples. Markings include spots and brush strokes. The plants are late spring- or summer-flowering.

"Perched Hawk" by Connor Beekman
This image features a Red-tailed Hawk who landed on a white, wooden fence at the Aurora Reservoir in Colorado. There happened to be an amazing and colorful sunset that day, which I used to silhouette the bird.

I had fun on the local hiking trail on Saturday, but I realized how out of shape I am when I was sitting on a log leaning way over taking photos of ice patterns in little frozen pools. I was really sore the next day, just from squatting down and standing back up. Of course, I neglected to take my tripod.....not doing that again.

This photo was taken on Kodachrome 64, f5.6, shutter held open for as long as it took to light the scene with a bunch of Sylvania #1 flashbulbs. In a light rain. Ah, the crazy things we did before we had families and acted responsibly.

The 2016 Ice Sailing championships were held in Madison last week.

I took these two photos earlier this month in Central City, Colorado. Many of the town's buildings were constructed in the late 1800s during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. Now, many of the buildings are vacant, including the old Coyote Creek Casino.

Digital art pieces made using a dry marsh landscape captured at the outer banks of North Carolina, and the digital addition of giraffes, moon, stars, comet, shading, water reflection filter, and vignette.
