Some Fractal Art I Made, What Do U Think?

I've been experimenting with mandelbulber and I've come up with a couple images that I'm fairly satisfied with. What do you think? Thank you in advance! :)

PS: I couldn't upload an image without sacrificing image quality, I have quite a few pieces on my page :)

They're interesting. Very colorful, I guess; but fractal art is not my cup of meat. As an art form, I thought fractals died about ten years ago.

Thank you! Im just fascinated by the sheer complexity of fractals, they're amazing.

Complex they are, no matter how deep you go. That's kinda cool.

The problem with fractals - or any other digitally created non representational abstract - you don't find many of them on the sold page.

Hi, Rowan,

I like your unusual and complex images -- especially these:

Art Prints

Fractal art is not dead. Though I can't seem to move them on FAA, I've sold many in the real world, and on other POD sites.

All the best to you, Rowan!

I've sold a few fractals on FAA, but I've licensed many. Apparently they print superbly on glass. I like your 3D ones, Rowan. Are you using Incendia?

By chance, I sold an image yesterday (Thanks to the buyer in the UK), that is a combination of a photo and a fractal piece made in a freeware program. I call it, "Ghost Ship".

I find some fractals seem to be limited as art except perhaps as seemingly abstract or semi-abstract pieces, but even some abstract pieces have thought behind them when being created. Otherwise for me, they are mostly random, or mathematical formulations that produce some interesting designs. I suppose the term "Fractal" should be clarified to mean, "Fractal-based" in most of the so-called "Fractal software programs". Creating them based on fractals gives the person creating the design, more control of the design. This is a help when trying to create something art-worthy.

I have experimented with a few fractal freeware programs which I think result in more interesting creations when manipulated into 3D stereo designs which give them the added dimension of depth! Still, I found them somewhat limiting for me and then finally it dawned on me that I could combine different ones in an effort to have more creativity and even a bit more control of what I wanted to do.

In my example of "Ghost Ship", the fractal portion is the opaque and strange atmosphere surrounding the ship which was a real ship image I took of The historic, USS Constellation, in Baltimore's Inner Harbor since it was the only "old", tall ship available to me at the time. I manipulated the image to try and form a "Ghost Ship" rendering. To my surprise, a buyer from the UK bought two different 3D Stereo Crossview image prints yesterday, and this was one of them.

I've sold a few other 3D stereo images over the past 3 years here on FAA including both 3D stereo anaglyph, and Crossview formats. Although the format may be out of the mainstream, there's still a community "out there", that has a fascination and enthusiasm for this genre'.

Ghost Ship - 3D Stereo Crossview by Brian Wallace

To view the Crossview Stereo image in 3D (with depth)... Gently converge (cross) your eyes and focus on the middle image that appears while ignoring the outside. If you've ever viewed one of those "Magic Eye" images with the hidden 3D image, this is the same principle. Not everyone is successful with this method of viewing, but if you are, it becomes easier each time and eventually 2nd nature.

Thanks for all the feedback! Im using mandelbulber, it's a really great program. And I love your Ghost Ship piece, Brian!

Thank you for the response Rowan. I wrote a lot of text to get across the basic point that combining different fractal-base designs may expand the artistic value of the format. :)

Some amazing images have been created using software applications like mandelbulb, especially 3D images. There are a few FAA members whose software-generated images escape the constraints of the software to become art rather than just the typcal output of the software. My stuff on FAA is generated by software I write myself from scratch; this gives me the power of the computer without the limitations of a software application. I feel that the images I create are truly my creations, even when they are coincidentally similar to those created using a software application.
