Dear Sheena
Wonderful work, I truly mean that :)
Can't believe nobody shared work on your thread yet !!!
I tend to share my work in progress after I've finished something because it takes months or years for me to complete anything.
Hope you don't mind me sharing ‘work in progress’ in hindsight?
This one is a head study drawing I did of a Botticelli painting.
I have a sepia version of this drawing in my Pixels shop, and she’s my top seller here :)
It was a research/practice/inspiration artist study, for a mermaid drawing which I should finish before Easter, if all goes to plan.
Hope you get your valentine elf finished in time, she’s looking great :)
Best wishes
Stevie

My newest work in progress is a special painting for a client. It's an oil on 24x18 canvas, done in the realism style.
The last two photos show a major change I did as requested by my client. I'm not quite done, the painting needs to dry a few days before I can put the finishing touches on it.

My hat off to you Darice......so much difficulty in this.....the sky....the perspective of the railroad tracks ....totally out of my league. Amazing thanks for sharing

Dear Sheena and Darice
Sheena, I love the concept and colour choices on the Hibiscus work and your Valentine Elf looks perfect you must be pleased :)
Darice that's a great work, I love the composition and the clever way you did the grass in the foreground. The detail already looks brilliant, would love to see it after you've done the refinement stage (always my favourite bit).

As long as I have been on FAA I still get confused with the copy & paste and how to do it. ♡♡
Your work is gorgeous Sheena.

Thank you Sheena. And thanks for creating this discussion thread.
@Stevie, Thanks. The picky detail stage is one of my favorites too. I'll be happy to post the finished piece when I'm done.

Hello everyone
Sheena - I really like that one you are working on, very clever concept.
This one is about composition. How I made a good drawing from an average photograph.
Look forward to seeing other people's progress too.

SUPER AWESOME Stevie. Thank you for sharing here...this is exactly what this thread is about.....the process. Love it!
I am FINALLY finished this one.......
Moonlit Manor is complete and has proven to challenge me and take me out of my comfort zone of drawing only portraits.....Combing Portraiture with my love for fairy gardens I plan to continue to add Landscape type elements in my "Mystique" Collection in hopes to better and broaden my skills. I have a had a very good response so far with my Followers they are enjoying watching me grow, learn and continue to develop my style.

Wow! Sheena, that is amazing! I've pinned a number of your pieces in my Art board. I finally broke down and got a Pinterest account.
Awesome! Thanks Roseann!
Yeah for a while a had my settings so people couldn't pin when I first joined......eventually I was seeing my art allover Pinterest regardless and so I figured if you can't beat it join it....its my attempt to be involved with the pinning of my art so that the right tags are on them....(helps with online searches to be found) Theft is inevitable...it's a matter of doing our best to patrol our own images and intervene when necessary.

Dear Darice
Love this, things really come together on the detail stage :)
Sheena I love your combinations of gardens and faces, very clever concept :)

Darcie so much detail and work in your painting......I wouldn't have the patience for all that thank you for sharing. Looks superb.
Thanks Stevie.....I never used to go for the surrealism (I was a chicken and too stuck with what I was taught in High school...didn't have the guts to try anything else) I used to be purely a realism artist....I realized I was not drawing "Me" ...lost the passion. My newly found style and continued effort to push my creativity brought me back to life.

Andrea I use flickr but there are other photo sharing sites you can use ...all you need is a proper code for the image
ex.) I use the embedding code from Flickr from my images...each image has their own code..... starts with < a

I'm gonna have to give up too, sorry I have not been back for a while.
Like Andrea I can't work out how to embed images into this forum either.
Youtube I can do, but I don't always have time to make films. Sorry :(
Next time I make a film I will pop into the thread here :)

Sheena I really love the tea cup in tea, pretty please :)

Godiva Inspiration:
Another color, pink: Another color, blue:
Inspiration is the Valentine vector artwork on a Godiva chocolate box 2016. Working on the layers program in GIMP.org. The vegetation is a brush. The eggs were made up of mandala brushes layered on one layer then cut out. Everything else I painted on different layers. The beauty of layers is you can erase an area without touching other objects on other layers or change the background or object easily without worrying about disturbing the other layers.

Here's something I sketched last night that I think I'll finish.
I couldn't find my sketchbook (at least, a sketchbook that wasn't full), so I drew this on lined notebook paper.
I'm calling it "The Mushroom Child". The child's name is Mycea, and her little friend is her pet Glowyrm Fosfur. It's twilight time, so Mycea is getting ready to leave her underground home and go foraging in the woods. Fosfur will be providing both light and companionship.
Sometimes I just get into a "cute" mood.
It's kinda messy, but I think there's enough there to see. Thoughts?

Carmen!!!! Well hello there stranger! Nice to see you and your super futuristic creations again in these parts!! You rock Lady!
Did a quick Skill Share for my Followers since so many always ask about my highlights......here the pen I am using is a Water Based Sharpie....(saves me on my white colored pencils) Makes everything POP

In this clip it illustrates some of my process......as discussed in my Article in Colored Pencil Magazine "Partnering PanPastels with Colored Pencil", I first lay down the PanPastel and then go on top with colored pencil

How many people set up a work in progress gallery to show vistors what they are working ?.
Always enjoy your "company" and participation Carmen....keep em coming
Thanks Michael really appreciate it!
I have considered adding a Gallery but was not sure if it were necessary on Pixels or not....not sure if it would distract from the finished work or not.
I have Flickr / Instagram / Facebook I use for sharing my works in progress (and of course this thread because I love the mutual sharing here)
I share WIP to build anticipation to potential buyers of the finished work.....in hopes that it helps potential sales along the way because Marketing a finished drawing is as important as finishing it.
I know my Licensed work sales skyrocketed once I started consistently sharing Work in Progress clips.....it also made people realize I WAS in fact drawing ....as in the beginning before I was as established as I am now some implied I was a fraud and didn't actually draw my work.....Not only has my Work in progress sharing gained me some real respect it has also landed me a Feature article and cover of a Colored Pencil Magazine as well as some other published work. I am grateful I decided to document my progress on my drawings ...had I not I would have not had any material available for my recent interviews and articles.

Ditto re "company" Sheena.. These animations are trial pieces for more complex (wip) series.
Possible to have too much fun in process? Not in my world ;)

Thank you, Sheena. Your art speaks to me as well. I especially like your lady-and-house paintings. What a creative and charming theme! And I'm really liking the fox painting so far. So well done!

totally Agree carmen
SO nice to see you on my thread JL please keep em coming when you have time.
what started as a fun doodle of an Elf around Christmas of 2015 has blossomed into a Collection of Characters I have started and are becoming my best sellers especially with my licensed work.......had I known all I had to do was doodle a cute character .............it's funny how things work out.

Sheena, how exciting! I love all kitties but those sleek, talkative Siamese are really in a class by themselves. Are you waiting to see what color her eyes are before finishing your artwork? I've seen blue, brown, even gold 🐈 You must post a pic of your new addition when you get her...and I like how you said 8-12 weeks...sometimes they are just not ready to go at 8 weeks (no matter how anxious you are!)
As always -- love your art, Sheena..as they say 'keep'em coming' ;) Congrats on your new fur baby -- our most recent is now a fully mature 3 years and diva among divas. An 'only' cat & being spoiled to the hilt :)
Hey Carmen & Joy! Yes I agree never to rush babies...they will let us know when they are ready....Either way.....I had done my research for an entire year picked and responsibly planned a time to adopt a new cat ....not just any cat...a Seal Point Siamese....Found a breeder.....The kittens were just born I was so excited to be adopting one this fall.....and now the breeder is being shady and won't answer my questions or my texts...AND has changed the price to an Outrageous amount........I'm so Disappointed....but the red flags are going up so I have to opt out. : (
I just can't go forward ...something is telling me something is off......a real breeder would be open to answering questions....and also wouldn't change the price AFTER a price was established...I haven't sent my deposit yet...I was waiting to get the info so I could and they never got back to me...then before I knew it the ad I found had changed and they won't answer me anymore.....really odd. I guess it wasn't meant to be. but I LOVE cats so I will be adopting one in the near future.
Oh dear, Sheena...that is too bad. But a reputable breeder should answer all questions without hesitation, and keep to the agreed upon price. If there's a question about the kitty coming with papers confirming her parentage...and you are paying for a purebred...then, yes something sounds fishy. Pet Quality prices are not Purebred prices. I'm glad you didn't send a deposit. There are registries for breeders...maybe you could make a report.
I hope you can find another kitty soon. As you of course know, there are many in shelters. I love all the breeds but my pets always come from shelters. You might even find a Siamese rescue :)
I agree Joy there are so many cats that need good homes I will take the shelter route or check out the local vet clinic I'm no hurry I'm going to wait until the fall. I have a lot going on this summer I want to wait until I can be home with the new kitty and not have any holidays planned away from home. It was kind of a fluke just when I thought there was no breeders in my area and then I came across the ad thinking that it was legitimate and I've always wanted a seal point so I looked into it I honestly thought it was for real. They even sent me pictures of the parents and the newborns so I saw the kittens and both parents to ensure that they were in fact seal points....Red flags starting popping up .... We agreed upon a price they were going to hold the female for me everything seemed like it was coming into place ......the next day when I asked about sending a deposit and mentioned needing their information and breeder info they seemed really friendly but wouldn't answer my questions straight forward....I noticed they were dodging questions. Then I noticed that The Ad had been reworded from previous days .... and they changed the price (raised it significantly ) ......Kitties are kitties I'm sure I will come across one and fall in love ..... This wasn't meant to be. I'm going with my gut on this Regardless I will be getting a new kitty in the fall .
You said it...kitties are kitties! When I went to adopt my Tashy, I went to the shelter specifically looking for an all black kitten. As I looked around, I stopped at one cage...this tiny little thing mewed, actually it was just a squeek, I came in for a closer look and she put her little paw through the cage wires and touched my face. That was it...fell in love right there in that moment. She was a brown tabby, not an all-black. She turned out to be the best cat ever. She came out here to California with me on the plane and lived to be 15 years old. I'm waiting until I move to get two litter mates.
You will find your new kitty. You don't choose them...they choose you :) 🐱

Thanks to everyone who has participated in my Work In Progress threads over the past few years. I am closing the thread and probably won't be around much anymore.
I officially have an agent and am onto bigger and better things. Most likely won't see me on FAA much anymore but hopefully you will see me in stores soon.........
Keep up all your hard work guys!
Much Love and respect to you all,
Sheena
