These, like most of my paintings, are also acrylics and are 2nd and 3rd in my series.
Thank you Erica.

I find painting abstracts is a nice balance to my representational artworks, but is often more challenging.

The Description
Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray.........exerpt.....
Let not Ambition mock their useful toil,
Their homely joys, and destiny obscure;
Nor Grandeur hear with a disdainful smile
The short and simple annals of the poor.
The boast of heraldry, the pomp of pow'r,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour.
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.

"Crossroads VII" is from a series of colorful digital paintings I have been creating on my Ipad with an app called ArtRage 3.

I did this painting in High School as part of a class assignment. We were to select an art style, read a book on the style, then do a painting based on that style. I selected cubism but no matter what I did, I couldn't seem to please my art teacher. I became very perturbed, frustrated, and angry. I think the look on my face told my teacher I couldn't take any more criticism about it as I decided I would just go ahead and do what I wanted with it. He never said another word to me about how I finished painting it...
Four decades later I took the painting above and converted it into a digital 3D Stereo Anaglyph. Red/Cyan filtered 3D glasses are required for viewing depth. It actually has more views than the 2D version above and still kind of works as a 2D mixed media abstract...

How do you post the painting on the discussion board from the fineartamerica site? I would like to post an image here.

People are sharing images here and not chatting. As you know, this is against the rules of this forum. Please will you discuss your images and abstracts in general not just dump images in the thread or I will have to close it

Two black and white acrylic paintings of amorphous, organic shapes that are shaded like a pencil sketch, to give the illusion of 3 dimensions. It invites the viewer to enter into it's mass of shapes and set the imagination free to see all manner of things, faces, torsos, animals, etc.

Here are some words. It is early in the morning here. Expressing myself with words has always been the most difficult thing to me so I will try.
Artists respond to the visual world and words do not always come easy that is the reason why we paint and are artists. To express with a brush and paint our innermost feelings is our goal. The most difficult thing for me is to come up with titles of artwork and express to other people what I am thinking when creating a painting.
I really enjoy looking at all the wonderful abstract images here and have followed some of the artists here and may follow more. It is a joy every day to wake up and search the web for visual images created by other artists. It is a communion of visual expression with others. When I see a beautiful painting where everything comes together something happens and I just want to look at it for hours or return and look many times.
And now I need some coffee. Have a enjoyable day everyone. Looking forward to checking the discussion boards during breaks today.

This abstract in acrylics is one of my earlier ones done on a 12"x12" canvas.
Something that was said here by another artist reminded me of this quote:
"If an artist is looking (s)he's working."
When I think about, it I'm constantly looking at the world around me and relating it somehow (lighting, texture, composition, etc.) to art in general and to my own art efforts specifically.
I wonder how many others have this same experience.

As the title implies, this was inspired by our 12 years living in the Phoenix, Arizona area.

These are all brilliant! I am wanting to get started painting in something more like abstract expressionism, so I am looking for examples and ideas of what makes good abstract work. Just wondering--do any of you have much sales in the large canvas prints?
