A Friendly Reminder...

This message is for group owners.. Don't hate the messenger, I just wanted to point something out that MAY be easily forgotten... I see MANY of you griping and complaining about members NOT following the rules to your group... Here's something to think about... How many times have you added an image to a group directly from your upload screen? Do you ALWAYS think about the rules when you put a check mark in a box? My guess, probably no... Not ALWAYS... That being said, most of us belong to MANY groups... Please don't automatically assume your members are being defiant. We're all busy, and we all make mistakes from time to time.
In summary, please be a bit more understanding of one another.

(Side note: This is the best online community I've ever had the honor of being a part of. Overall, you're amazing. However, there's always room for improvement.) ;-)

Hi Ally,

It is true when I add work to groups it is mostly when I upload. I work full time so my "art" time is limited. I kind of doubt people really add work to groups where their work would be rejected intentionally...that is pointless

When I joined groups I did so after reading the rules so I knew I was following them. My work is almost entirely digital painting but over time I have noticed many groups have new administrators and new rules...some are now only for photographers etc.

I have totally lost track of who wants what so lately I have been adding very little to groups. I know I may have received emails about the changes but when you get so many mixed in with all the time to vote and don't forget to votes it is hard to read them all or even keep track when you do.

.Maybe the thing to do is sit down one day and go through them all and quit the groups that no longer apply....but then I feel bad quitting groups because I always assumed the administrators wanted a lot of members.

It seems like the room for improvement lies with the people who are checking the box to automatically upload to groups. Just uncheck the box.

Hi Val..........your duty is to yourself and your time, imHo, not to whether the group needs "a lot of members" - many of whom probably don't belong there, lol.

For me, all is simple now by choice.........I am only in five groups of special interest to me and appreciate if my work gets acknowledged and always thank the Admin. = and
that is IT....................(I am still not convenced that belonging to myriad groups enhances ones ability to be found on the net....just saying...considering all the time one needs
to maintain a real relationship with the admin, not just to tick the box because it's there).

As a member, but not a runner of a group, I can see what Ally says. Tt is not some wild streak of defiance if/when I upload material that does not make the criteria of a group. I try to look and read if I've forgotten exactly what they require, but we all make mistakes and with some groups being large I can see where it may add in the eyes of group owners.

The groups need to be standardized if they want to solve the problems that keep coming you here.

They could be standardized to in some fashion like one a day groups, two a day groups. Photos only, painters only, etc, etc. And or some other criteria and that category should be in the title where it shows up in the upload screen.

Otherwise there is just too many conditions. Photos taken when two dogs were barking at a full moon, but only if they were standing on three legs. Some crazy stuff like that.

In order to be effective in the way people hope they work, I think you need to be in as many as you can. But trying to remember or having to stop and look up the conditions is not going to happen.

Hi Viv, Thank you for that! I have been thinking of going through all my groups and seeing where and if I might fit in...when I find the time :)

I agree with you, Ally. Members don't need to be yelled at for making mistakes as though they are doing it on purpose. I've quit groups with heavy-handed admins. Life is too short.

That's true, Floyd, and it would help a great deal if we could see the entire title of the group when ticking the box. As they are now, they are cut off. I expect that is where a lot of erroneous submissions are coming from.

When you hover over your groups name on the upload page, look in the bottom left of your browser (on a pc) and you can see the whole url of the group showing you the name

Thats what I do

Thanks, Abbie, I will try that!

The biggest issue I see is that the upload page ignores the upload limit set by group admins. So, although many have a 1-per-day limit, the upload page can bypass this, so annoying some admins.

The other thing is having clarity in the group title. It should be fairly obvious from the title what the group stands for.

Finally, as Floyd points out, very few people will deliberately leave the upload checkboxes blank and then subsequently go and add the image manually. Why take multiple steps when it's a feature available to us?

Having said this, as a group admin, my major gripe is that people don't think at all about the blindingly obvious titles of the 2 groups I run, and yes, I do hold them responsible...
