In my years of experience the one thing I have learned is that the saying "it's all about the glass" is paramount above all else. Although the saying is normally targeted toward lenses, it would logically extend to the glass you put in front of them.

Nonetheless, some tips: depending upon the scene and your camera, you may have a hard time seeing thru and focusing thru a 10-stop. If you have Live View, it may help compensate. Also, watch your white balance. Knocking a shot down 10 stops can dramatically change the WB. In my experience, toward the warmer. May be best to shoot RAW so you have more control over WB in post.
