Honest Opinions Of My Website

I bought a domain and I've been working on my website for the past couple days. I was just wondering what everyone thought, Does it need improvement? Is everything easy to navigate, pleasing to the eyes? Criticism welcome. The merchandise section is far from being completely filled out but I'm working very hard to get it all set up. The website is www.vangrowart.com. All help is much appreciated, I just want to make sure everything is professional and I'm not missing anything.

I'm sorry but it's all over the place on the iPad

On the merchandise page things are overlaid and all over the page. Pages with nothing to see and apologies on the homepage that it's not ready?

I would wait until you have completed it and make sure you have a mobile friendly theme.

Also you have a page with a bunch of the same thumbnail all with your name right over the top, advertising different size work? Use PayPal or a shopping cart to use a dropdown with the sizes instead and an image without your name right across it......unless that's what is for sale?

I know the merchandise isn't done yet, I said I was still working on it. I tried the paypal thing but I can't adjust the shipping prices for all the different print and canvas sizes. Had to do it that way, I couldn't find any other way of doing it

Caleb,

Do you look at your site on an iPhone? or other small device?

I know from much earlier this year that drop down menus are a royal pain on small devices. Slow and awkward.

the header is unprofessional and hard to read.

i have no idea what this page is about. there should be a description as to why i'm here and why i want to stay here.

talking about merchandise first thing out is cheap.
mentioning your working out kinks and its your firsts website looks cheap as well.

your bio should start out with what this page is about - not your life story. the page is more about you and not at all about your work. start with - your a painter, then go on to the other stuff.

despite the fact you put a watermark on your picture -- NEVER EVER UPLOAD FULL SIZE IMAGES. i can easily take a piece of that or if i really wanted too- i could remove that mark.

http://www.vangrowart.com/merchandise/ i'm not sure what this page is, but it all looks the same, is hard to look at and i don't know what it is. they all of the same image, and the layout is too tight and hard on the eyes. your stuff goes to cowcow.... i don't trust that site at all btw.

http://www.vangrowart.com/merchandise/14-prints-and-canvases this layout is very confusing. because its the same image with different sizes.

you have a section that has prints and canvases - but the canvas is blank.

when i click on the home page -- there isn't a single word on it. nothing that tells me why i'm here.

basically your page is set up, but not ready to be seen. there is no reason to find or visit this page. there is no content and there is no way to know why you have it here. there is no purpose. a website has to outline what its purpose is, it has to start by explaining:

i am a painter, i make this kind of art, here are examples on the front page. then go on to how you make them, what your inspirations are, etc. then offer to sell them from that page. right now there is too much clicking and the layout isn't at all smooth looking. more so because you have no content google won't ever find this. your images are too large, you have to reduce the size, at the very least they take a long time to download.

Most of your views will come from phones and tablets. Make sure you use a responsive wordpress template so your site is usable on mobile platforms. Try using one of the FAA shopping cart widgets.

I only list the price of the art and state that shipping is not included in the price. When they supply an address I get the price. Paypal is really the way to go for online sales IMO. Here is my site for both original art and Prints with FAA Shopping Cart.

In addition to the above comments, the background color should be more neutral, in my opinion.

I hate to say it, but to me, the play on "Van Gogh " just doesn't work.

"Calebgrowart" I would prefer (if you can get it)

Yes...its too soon to ask what the site looks like..nothing really there...your FAA site looks good..need to fix your galleries...and from a personal perspective..I never click through on an avatar that has two people..whether here, twitter or anywhere....

Yeah, I keep meaning to change that. I will soon
