As a single lady in her late 50's, I often think that maybe there is a way to meet a single gentlemen who also loves photography not too far from New York? For friendship and sharing a mutual interest. FAA may serve more than just sharing photographs and art, yes? Stepping out of my boundaries to just put out this question?

You know what would be cool is if FAA started a date site. I mean at first it sounds silly, but the reason I joined FAA was to see what artists were talking about, what was meaningful to them...so why not an FAA dateline?
Anyhow, I wouldn't be a part of it because I'm married and I love being alone when the opportunity arises, so although, not for me, I would love it for my single friends.

considering the amount of trolls that visit this board on a daily basis - do you really want any of that?

I think you needed to go out more, I met and made some good friends by going to art exhibitions, museum, concerts and gardens. Go out do things you interest in and you will meet people with the same interests. I will stay away from the web.

Yeah, what better way to meet someone that shares your passion.
I believe there is one couple in the forum that met here....

The only problem is if two artists hook up, who will make money and pay the bills?
Buahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Oooooh, this is just for fun, but serious too.. cause I would really like to meet someone who shares my love for photography and who is single? I don't want this to be "The Bachelorette" show... but any matchmakers out there are more than welcome! I am 59.. Seeking someone who is 57-67.... Who knows, FAA could be much more than meets the eye!

Not sure if you are on Facebook but perhaps there is a photography group for your area. I did a search and found the following http://www.meetup.com/nycphotography/

JC - i will make this my final comment on the older genrations V younger...i beg to differ..when i was a kid and all (every single one back to adam and eve) generations before me...when you acted up in school and the nun or the teacher whacked you with the ruler....you never went home and told your parents becuase they would whack you twice as hard for being a rotten kid..AND THEY WERE RIGHT! today, a teacher only has to look at a kid sternly and that kid goes home and tells his parents and the parents of that sweet perfect kid threatens a lawsuite and possible criminal charges....I rest my case..

Well, my husband passed away suddenly 8 years ago... HE was the king of photography... HE got me into it... He was an architect by trade.. but was incredibly skilled as an artist by hand as well as digitally... when he passed suddenly, I decided to pick up his Nikon D80 and learn how to use it. I only had a point-n-shoot Cannon. I was determined to take his camera into action once again. It all began from there, and frankly, I think he would be turning over in his grave right now to see how far I have come. I think I am better than he!... SO, I was thinking that maybe someone would like to be my partner again at some point!

Diana, so sorry to hear about your husband. Unfortunetly, it is so hard to replace a "genuine diamont". Wish you the best of luck in your search, you are beautiful person!

Gina, you are so kind! Thank you so much! If anything, this makes for an interesting thread I think... cause lots of times people begin relationships with mutual interests like this one! So... never to late to contact me, guys!!!! I would NEVER want to meet someone who doesn't LOVE photography...cause you would never pass the "go" for me!

ok, I guess I'll play..
but Im very deviant and twisted... and I will sell prints of the photos.

So I got shot down by my first contact... Okay.. he has been married for many a years! hehe! BUT, who says FAA is only about art and photography, right? It could very well be an avenue for meeting someone with simlar interests, yes?? So... onto the next...
Bradley... there is always deviant and twisted for someone... not me though, thanks anyway!

cool,
but remember there is a fine line between pleasure and photography.
and I know, its not how you click the shutter, but how you develop the film. so if your down for a little C-41 just let me know..
I might even be down for a little E-6 if you keep it clean.
ps... Im old enough to be able to work an enlarger in a darkroom.... can you still put on the red light?

Abbie.. for you, my dear friend... did you ever think that FAA, could also be a match making site??

This is adorable! Diana, you'll have to start a blog with your FAA dating adventures!

Robert, I'm sorry for commenting off topic earlier, just seems like there's a rash of cynicism and complaining around here lately. Apologies for being quick on the trigger there. I do think it's a rite of passage to bemoan the "kids". I've heard my dad do it, and I've heard my grandfather do it, and I bet his grandfather did it too. I'm sure Socrates' Dad was like "these kids today and their insistence on speaking to crowds! In my day we never philosophized in public!"

Diana, if I lived anywhere near New York I would be delighted to take you up on your suggestion.
Sadly I live in England, and I think my wife would have a few objections 😟
Come on you New York men, there is a lovely lady out there waiting to meet you.

@ Bradley Clay -- Thanks for the laugh; that was hysterical! :-)
@ Robert Newman -- I'm beginning to irritate my nearest and dearest with my latest retro-catchphrase. Good grief! ;-)

David B: ??? Is there something about the word "simpatico" that I'm missing -- all I meant was "like-minded," should I have chosen a different word?
Cheryl,
The word is used by guys picking up women in bars. It is totally cheesy.
When I was entering the computer world in the 90s, I bumped into someone in a local coffee shop who was much older than me at that time. He was
also retraining to get into programming. He became a mentor to me. Unfortunately for him he was totally desperate with women. He used to read
how to pick up women books. The idea of those books was worse than cheesy. For instance you meet a woman and compliment her and touch
her arm and then yourself to build relationship from nothing. You know you are programming her. Totally fake. He was the first one to be using
the word "simpatico" outside of a show like Threes Company that would do it for humor.
He had been divorced twice. He moved to Austin when he got a good programming job. He got stock options. He arranged to make a simpatico
relationship with a woman much junior who did not speak English. She was educated about his stock options. Those were the roaring late 90s.
She married him. Before she married him, I gave him some common sense hard love. I told him it was only for his money. He was so put out we
never spoke again. She was mid thirties, he was approaching 60.
There is more elsewhere that I can not get into here, but he was one sick puppy. Seperately, he was constantly depressed, but never knew why.
Maybe if he had any ethics he would not have been so depressed.

Diana, just make sure you find someone rich so he can afford to pay for a big wedding because we are all going to be looking for our invitations!
