Keywords

Hi, new to FA. Wondering if my keywords are stored or do I need to rekey them for each image?
Thanks

Ken,
Hello and welcome! I'm not sure exactly what you're asking (I'm a little technically challenged) but I think the answer is that they are stored with the image that they were entered with.

When I upload a new image that is similar to a previous one, I copy and paste the appropriate keywords from the first image to the keyword box for the second image.

There are others who have posted that they store their keywords in their software programs and it automatically posts them when they upload their images (if I understood them correctly).

No matter......someone more knowledgeable will come along soon and correct me if I'm wrong and supply you with the correct information.

Again, welcome aboard!

They are only "stored" for the image you upload them with, and other upload you need to enter them again

if you put them in the image itself with the ITPC IPTC? i mix it up. you can put them there and it will output when you upload the image. same with title and the other stuff.

And unless one image is very similar to another one, each image should have different keywords that are relevant to that image. If an image of a stork is uploaded it should have keywords related to that particular bird. If the next upload is a picture of an elephant then the keywords for that image should be centered around an elephant.

The keywords are relevant to the image. Not the artist. Each image should have a unique set of keywords unless all of your images are very similar.

Thanks everyone. I wish FAA stored your keywords similar to Lightroom so you would not be required to re-enter the same keyword over and over.

It's a pain, isn't it?

I enter the description and keywords in Photo Mechanic for each image and don't have to edit keywords or description again on upload; just the title.

The keywords have to pertain to the individual image. Not likely that you are going to use the same ones over and over again.

You have florals, wildlife, landscapes and cityscapes. It would be spamming if you used the exact same keywords in all of those images.

You look at the image and what you see in that individual image is where you get your key words. Same thing for each image.

Keywords are supposed to describe each image so that a customer can find them via various search engines.
Therefore, each image should have its own keywords that describe that specific image.
Your name might be a common keyword, but generally, keywords should be individualized.
If you use lightroom to assign keywords, and export the images (and keywords) in a custom FAA export from lightroom to a folder for subsequent upload to FAA/Pixels, then the keywords, title, and description will already be in the uploaded files, and you won't have to enter them when you upload.
This is particularly helpful because if you do the work of entering the keywords while online on the upload page, you may time out, and your upload and keyword, description, and title lost in the process.

@Ken
I also use Lightroom. I insert all keywords and titles in Lightroom and import them to FAA with the keywords attached. This is the easiest way and the keywords will always be there in LR and it makes it for searches and to import to other sites.

Gosh I hadn't a clue about Lightroom and I've been paying all this time.

Thanks, David!

Thank David and all, I'll try importing my key wording from Lightroom with each image I upload. That should save a lot of time with common keyword names .
