Cats Clawing At The Art World

On November 3, Sotheby's showcased the ultimate homage to the beloved cat: a painting (shown) that is six feet tall and eight-and-a-half feet wide, and weighs a whopping 227 pounds.

The title of the massive painting is "My Wife's Lovers" by Carl Kahler.

It has become increasingly apparent in recent years that cats not only rule the Internet, but have also maintained a steady following in the art world in real life. There have been shows at the Metropolitan Museum of Art ("Balthus: Cats and Girls"), the Brooklyn Museum ("Divine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt"), and the Museum of the Moving Image ("How Cats Took Over the Internet"), and the Walker Art Center has a yearly festival devoted to Internet cat videos.

Do you have luck selling cat prints?

Yes. I do. I have a handful of images with cats and they all have sold at least once. One in particular sells every time I hang it at the gallery.
For what it's worth, my dog images are popular too, but I've learned that dog people are more breed-loyal, (I frequently get asked to change the dog in one of my images to a specific breed) but cat lovers like images of any type of cat.
