Don't Make This Mistake! Missing Images Mystery Solved!

So I noticed today that I had 1232 images when I was logged in, but only 914 when logged out. I wondered where those 318 images went.....

It took a little sleuthing, but I figured out what happened. About a week ago I spoke with an art consulting firm that supplies to Bed Bath & Beyond and Rooms To Go. I made a gallery for him to look at. I wanted to put images in it that I was o.k. with being mass produced. I put a bunch of images in it and then I made it PRIVATE because I didn't want any confusion for anyone. Since we can put images in multiple galleries, I had NO IDEA that when I made the gallery private that it would make the images private EVERYWHERE! It removed them from the other galleries I had put them in. They completely disappeared from the FAA site. Disappeared from Social Media. I couldn't promote them. They are gone from FAA search too.

So make sure that if you put something in a "private" gallery that you really do not want anyone ever seeing it EVER. Even if you have it in other galleries and intend for it stay in them. It won't if you put it into a private gallery. Private gallery trumps everything else.

If you want to create a special gallery for someone like an art consulting firm so they know what images they can consider, you cannot make it private.

Once I made the gallery non-private and I clicked through each image, my numbers matched again both logged in and out.

Now I just hope they get re-instated in FAA search! Some of them sell well.

Sharon,

I got the made it private part and that put a smile on my face.

Even the best of us have hiccups from time to time.

What if you put them in a private gallery and then take them out at a later date? Does that effect them in any way when they are placed in other galleries?

The good news is that none of these images are best sellers. Best sellers are not available for mass production. So THAT puts a smile on my face. :)

I do not know Phyllis....I will never make a private gallery again.

If you remove work from a private gallery or delete the private gallery altogether, that work becomes public, but it takes the usual overnight update before that work is in the search, etc.

Ditto if you make the formerly private gallery public.

But yeh, don't make a private gallery if you still want the work in it available to the public.

I found that out when I wanted to make private galleries to keep track of the various products so that I could make price editing easier. Ended up having to have those various galleries be public instead so I moved them to the bottom of my galleries page. Maybe someone could make a suggestion that this be changed so that we can have galleries that we set to "direct view only" that aren't necessarily public but that we can share through a direct link.

if you can figure out why they corrupt themselves, that would be good.

Same happened to me a while back. I put some images into a private gallery. After I made them "un-private" again, they didn't show up when I was logged out. Clicking on each image made them visible again (when logged out). Or just waiting they show up again very slowly but eventually. Strange.
