Pngs... Are Customers Actually Choosing Another Background Color?

How often do customers change the default color on items with customizable backgrounds?

I recently (today) has sales of two items - both PNGs, created and uploaded that way so that customers can choose the background color, but in both cases, the customer left the background color what I picked when I uploaded (which makes sense for the state series since it is chalkboard style, but the dog series is intended to be customized to match ones needs. So my question is - for those of you who have uploaded designs with transparent backgrounds, and had sales of items like tote bags, shirts, phonecases, shower curtains and pillows that allow background customization on files uploaded like this, Are your customers selecting a background color that is different from the default color?

wow i only got a piece of that spam in my box, that's one big hunk of spam...

anyway as long as your png is totally clear, and not a background saved as a png file, it won't matter if they change the background color or not. the transparency allows them to change the shirt color and not that many people want bright colors.

on the plus side the spam bumped your thread.

The default color seems to be the one most people choose.

Frankly I think most people don't spend much time looking at the options. Maybe they are just buying a late gift for a birthday they forgot and just rush it off. Sometimes the image isn't sized properly or I have a coupon code right in the description and its not used.

I did have one person order two shirts and a sweatshirt of the same design and they choose different colors.
....

Note On Spam: That must be the quality of advertising you can buy for $5 on Fiverr.

I have only sold a few t-shirts but all of mine were changed from the default.

In fact, none of the pillows or totes were sold with the default setting. None of the phone cases were sold with defaults either.

I personally don't see anything wrong with the defaults they pick, but when I look at what people are actually selecting, they are colors or positions I would would not probably pick for those images. Because of that, I no longer mess with the settings on any of the consumer products.

Some times I choose different colors for various products so that its more obvious that the buyer can change the color. Black seems the most popular background.

The answer I came up with a rarely...
Most of my sales have opted for the default background color, until yesterday, when the buyer changed the background color on this image to a bright and light tealish-blue, mimicking the ocean, which seems perfect for Hawaii. http://fineartamerica.com/saleannouncement.html?id=85efd4588b8a9ffee67322991594f5db

Its not just the ability of changing the background. Its also keeps the printing to only the crucial parts. The PNG keeps the background transparent so there isn't things like printing black on black.

One thing I see in buyer reviews is that some buyers do not understand the whole "background color" bit. They buy a pillow and expect the "back" to be solid of the color they pick. They buy a black and white image and choose red and expect the image itself to be printed in red and white. Or they choose an image that is not a transparent background image that has a lot of one color in the background and they still expect to get a different color in the background if they choose it.

Somehow FAA has to make buyers aware AT CHECKOUT that what they see is what they get. If words are cropped off in the icon they are looking at, they will be cropped off in the product. If the background is white, it will be white.

Interesting comment, Nikolyn. I am lucky enough to have not had any returns (insert knock on wood sound), but did see where the pillows state the same image appears on both sides and was also confused when ordering a pillow when I had to select the white or black background. I figured it was for the seam around the zipper in case anything showed, but the pillow cover was well made and no edges without printing were evident, nor was any of the intended design cut off.
