Color Difference Between Faa And Aw?

I was just comparing images on the image tab on my FAA and AW pages and noticed that the colors are richer, deeper, more saturated (in a good way) on the AW page than on the FAA page. The colors look bleached out on the FAA page. Is that just because the thumbs are larger on the FAA page, or because I'm viewing the images on a white background on the FAA page, or am I just optically deluded?

Both the FAA and AW pages use the same links to the images. There should not be a difference in the actual images. Around line #3353 on a recent AW page will be the link to the FAA image that displays on both pages. So I would say your observation is due to the white background on FAA.

I actually thing the images appear a bit more vivid on the pixels site...but I would agree with gregg

I don't think the colors are different but they have a little more pop on the faa site...I always guessed due to size and format....wished they used it for the AW! Love your avatar shot Kathleen!

They're the same image. Why would they look different? How would it be achieved? Why not ask someone to randomly choose images without you knowing where they're from and then visually compare them?

edit: - btw any difference in border colors between the pages would make a significant impact to the way your brain interprets the images

Val, thanks for the comment about my avatar. Won't be long before I'm back in that swamp waiting for daybreak. Peaceful way to start a new day.

I think Greg must be right. The black background tricks my brain into thinking the colors are richer and more saturated than on the FAA white background. As to any other how and why they look different, I don't know but when I look at the first page of images on both sites, I see a marked difference. I thought that maybe since the thumbs are significantly smaller on the AW site, the pixels were bunched closer together, thus giving the illusion of more saturated colors. The colors look totally washed out on the FAA side.

OK Richard, would you like to randomly choose images and visually compare them?

OK, as I am on my lunch break you got me at a good time, Kathleen!
I have 2 Viewsonic VG2230wm monitors mounted on a single arm side by side.
I opened your FAA site on one and your AW on the other and did a visual comparison. Then I switched the screens over to take account of the lighting characteristics of my office.
I see no difference when looking at the individual image pages. However, when looking at the grids of images though there does appear to be a slight difference to my eyes. The black background seems to make the images pop slightly more.

Thanks, Richard! My eyes have been playing tricks on me lately so wasn't sure.

I spent a couple days painting a custom green on walls and because I'd been enveloped in that color so for many hours, after I was done no matter where I looked everything was coated in that same shade of soft chartreusey-green. I thought for sure that my retinas had been damaged beyond repair. They've since adjusted somewhat but I still see a faint wash of green whenever I look at the starkly-white walls in my home.
