What is normal? That's like asking "What is art?". It's all relative. To some people I'm pretty normal, some people might call me a "menace to society."

Odd people think they are normal and normal people always wanted other thinks they are odd.

Oddly enough, there's no such thing as normal.
I'm a freak who has learned to blend in when needed.

I don't care..........I love myself, right now, with all my abnormalities..............good question.

isnt odd in fashion? Isnt it the thing to be in our culture today? even the lady who dowsed her eyes in draino to make herself blind is being congratulated for being so couragous. To me..that is ODD!

The more I get to know others, I think I'm fairly normal. To them, I'm most likely an odd duck.
How many people live in the same town their entire life?
How many people have lived in the same house for 57 years?
How many people worked for the same employer for 42 years?
How many people have been married to same man for 44 years?
I guess you could say I'm in it for the long haul. In this day and age, I'm an oddity.

The question is, it more humane to leave her sick and happy she's blind, or treat her mental illness and potentially reveal to her the horror of what she's done?

dang, she was treating the mental illnes and the shrink was the one who helped her pour the draino in her eyes . you cant make this stuff up ... we have gone over the edge!

Murders, schizophrenics, bio polar disorders, petty thieves, rapists........
all normal. What is normal? The range of human behaviors and problems.
There is nothing that is not normal. Normal is all inclusive.
It has happened before. It will happen again.
So what is odd? Oddly enough I do not know what is odd.

For 40 years I was normal because I was told by my parents my birthday was on the twelfth, found out that my birth certificate says the 13, so I am actually odd now.

I think it is both odd and not normal to pour draino in your eyes because you want to live the life of a blind person. But they have a PPT code for the disorder so insurance will pay the doctors bills. It is called Body integrity identity disorder (BIID) and wikipedia already has a page for it. BIID, also referred to as amputee identity disorder or "transabled", is a psychological disorder. BIID is a disorder in which otherwise healthy people feel they are meant to be disabled. It is related to xenomelia, "the oppressive feeling that one or more limbs of one's body do not belong to one's self". BIID is typically accompanied by the desire to amputate one or more healthy limbs to achieve that end, though it has also reportedly existed in a woman who purposely blinded herself. Sounds to me that gender identity disorder might fit into this or a closely similar category.
To me, these things are not normal. These people need help...and not help from a medical professionals who help pour the draino in their eyes.

suzanne---everyones individuality makes us all different...that is what makes life so pressious. So to that extent, we are all odd in our own ways. I dont think I am abnormal or demented because my work station has to be set up a certain way, the same exact way, everytime I work at it. Or that I have to count to 4 and tap my left foot 3 times before I can get up from my desk. These things even seem odd to me so I know how my coworkers see it. Odd might be something you do that is not quite the same as most do things. Creating art would be considered odd by most people if they knew what went into it and some of the obsessities associated with creating it. These oddities are normal differences between us. But cutting off your arm because you do not beleive it is yours, or becsause you "feel bad" for those that are less fortunate, or acting like a women when you are a man, these things are not a normal differences. Todays culture (futhered by political correctness, the media and liberal politicians) are attempting to depict these abnormailites as normal and couragous and glorify them as the "new normal". People need to speak out against the PT Barnum media and PC politicians and put an end to it before it puts an end to us as a culture. just my opinion.

Completely normal. Boringly normal. As normal as apple pie and mustard.
Tony, that's odd! Superstitious?

I've always told people that I to non-artists I am odd and to other artists I am too normal. It seems that when I meet and know non art types they want me to be weird and artsy. But really i am pretty normal with exceptions.

There are no "normal" people. My psychologist told me "normal" is just a setting on the dryer. :)

I am abnormal because I used to have these fantastic abs. But now, that's all behind me. :)

Do I only have the two choices? (^_^)
I need, at least a third choice, ... "none of the above".
I normally post in this forum at least once a day, but oddly, for the past few weeks, my presence here has been sparse, because of my focus on other things.

"Normal is a lie." ~ Cynthia Decker
Exactly.
It's a mask. A pretense.
It's the face society wants us to wear so as not to upset its delicate sensitivities.
Society prefers us to be liars.
Step out of line, and it tries to slap you back into place.
Every now and then one of us breaks free.
We call them artists.

it is todays PC society rhat is normalizing everything... even the absurdly abormal is courageos and wonderful. yesterday a school in wyoming cancelled celebrate america day because someone in that school might not be american and might be offended. 1) what in the name of pete is a non american doing in an american classroom? and 2) why does everone now have to stand on their head so as to not maybe offending somone? as these actions take hold, in fast time, the abnormal becomes normal.. i hope i will be allowed to display my christmas tree this year!
becoming more normal and
