I'm in! And that's my camera but mine is pink... which should surprise no one. Glows green in the dark from my vintage irradiated lenses, LOL!

Susan - Welcome to the fun! Pink doesn't surprise me, and your camera is an excellent choice! Hold on to those lenses!

I'm assuming since most Pentax owners are serious lens addicts, that you have a few vintage ones of your own Frank. Fave?

Dean Harte

Frank, would you also accept Ricoh cameras in the group?

Frank J Casella

Susan -- You hit the nail on the head. My favorite that I mostly use is known as 'The Plastic Wonder". SMC PENTAX - DA f/1.24 35mm AL

The other is sharp as a tack ( compared to my Nikon lenses ) SMC PENTAX - DA* f/1.28 50-135mm ED [IF] SDM

What is yours by the way?

Dean -- You know, I was thinking about that. So you answered my question. I"m going to say go ahead and I'll update the title of the group in due time. I don't think Ricoh is going to sell Pentax as fast as ( was it? ) Holga did.

I'm in, too!

Ooooooooh I am so envious, I'd love your Plastic Wonder! My fave is definitely my vintage Pentax SMC f:1.4 50mm prime, with my not-as-vintage Takumar-F Zoom SMC f:1.4-5.6 70-210mm running a close second. Also, I vote for Ricoh friends!

My first SLR was a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm prime (I don't remember the specs on the lens). Thats was a great camera.... I often think of picking up a used one

I've heard some great things about that 50 Susan. We'll have to swap some time .... But not for long. Check the link.

Brian - I switched to Pentax when I went digital. So I too would like to try a film body some day.

Thomas - yes, if it's Pentax, etc. all good!

Used to have a camera, but haven't used digital Pentax camera. Thanks for the info :)!

Yeah, I'll be sending husby to that page in plenty of time for XMAS... I *need* a 35mm, LOL!

But honestly Frank, have you ever met a Pentax lens you didn't like? Even the plastic kit lenses are pretty damn good.

Frank J Casella

Xueling -- You're welcome!

Susan --- Yeah, the kit lens is awesome. When I transitioned from Nikon in 07' and got the Kit lens with the K10D I thought it would be this sub par thing like I got with my FM 25 years earlier. Boy was I surprised!! So, when I got The Plastic Wonder with the K-r I was confident that would be something. What I miss though is the CCD sensor.

I'm in - we Pentaxians have to stick together!

Welcome, Jane! Yeah, we're a passionate bunch, aren't we!??

Susan Maxwell Schmidt

Egads Brian, my first SLR was a Yashica! That's how old I am :P

Still have it too. Wish I could find my lenses, tho.

I just realized I don't miss film anymore! Wow, that was like an epiphany... missed it for the longest time when I came back to photography.

Frank J Casella

If I were a Pentaxian back then my first camera might have been a Yashhica as well. I just may go back to film ... because sending to a lab and they scan it is way more affordable in both chemistry and time savings.

By the way, I was peeking on Flickr at shots with the kit lens ... check this one out https://flic.kr/p/yAVa8J

Susan Maxwell Schmidt

Wow, that is AWESOME! So Ansel! I love Pentax, I have no plans on abandoning them anytime soon. Besides... all the lenses!

I was actually a child model for Yashica. Our neighbor when we lived in NY was a Yashica bigwig and my father was into photography in a big way. I was in the pamphlets that came with the camera, in their ad in Look magazine, and hung in Grand Central Station. I still have the pamphlet around here somewhere, and the rocking chair my mother and I were sitting in.

Nono... no autographs.

Frank J Casella

Well, Susan, I guess you're right up there with the Norman Rockwell models, eh??

But really though, what an historic experience considering how far Yashica - Pentax - Ricoh has progressed since then!

Looks like membership is picking up slowly in the group. I update Features on Wednesday, looks like it will be fun.

Susan Maxwell Schmidt

Actually, it was all a little too Norman Rockwell-y for my taste, but being like 3 at the time no one asked for my creative input. Looooooosers.

I've updated the group title, below is the new link. Thank you everyone for your wonderful participation!

I, too, have a soft spot for Pentax. Some of my gallery images were created on a K-x body with 18-55 DA kit lens.

Sadly, after a year of very heavy use, it has a dozen blown pixels. This makes post a bit of a chore, so it hasn't been the camera of choice lately, but I was quite impressed with the image quality of both sensor and kit lens. Excellent low-light capability for an entry-level camera.

Anyone need a barely-used Sigma 15/2.8 fisheye for Pentax? I never got past the testing stage because of the blown pixels, but my limited tests showed excellent color and resolution. I'd like this lens to be used instead of sitting at the bottom of my camera bag.

Frank have you had a chance to try out the 645z yet? I remember when it was first announced it caught your eye.

Frank J Casella

Joshua -- I have not a chance to try out the 645Z, as the Pentax Pro program where I loaned equipment from is no longer since Ricoh took over the company. I've read it has quite a sensor though.

Joshua House

I may rent one to give it a try in the next few months. At some point I will have to leave the Olympus 4/3 line due to lack of support, and may just make the jump all the way to medium format.

Bill Swartwout

Ah, Olympus 4/3. Nice...
I used to have Pentax equipment decades ago and it was wonderful back in the film days. I don't know why I didn't get into Pentax with digital except, maybe, that the first digital I could afford was an Olympus. Now I use both Nikon DX and Olympus 4/3 (MFT) digital but lean heavily on the Oly. I would be interested in an Oly 4/3 group - both 4/3 and micro 4/3. :)

Whatcha asking for the fisheye Don?

Don Zawadiwsky

I looked up the current new price on B&H etc. - $559. This one is barely used and I have everything original - don't think I even filled out the warranty card, but will double check that detail. Does $400 plus shipping/insurance at cost sound reasonable?

Edit: Yes, I have everything included in the original sale including an unfilled warranty card & all paperwork, caps, case, shade, box. There's also something I didn't notice when I first got the lens - a small silver 1" square piece of metal with a hole in the corner, in a small plastic bag. Came with the lens, not a clue what this is, but you can have it too. Anyone interested, let me know and I can send a pic via email. Lens has been out of the box once when I tested it last year, and again just now. Otherwise as new. I can't see any signs of use whatsoever.

Susan Maxwell Schmidt

Yes it's reasonable but too rich for my blood, unfortunately. I'll have to settle for drooling from afar :/

Love any women with long hair and upscale taste in hair jewelry you need holiday prezzies for? Mebbe we can make a deal!

Somehow I can't get to open the group's page (The page you have requested can not be found.), I'll try again later.

I shoot Fuji and Pentax, I have a K-30
