Chicago

I will be traveling to Chicago at the beginning of November and staying for 3-4 days. Looking for advise on locations for some great photography. Something that only a local would know about. Also looking for great dining spots and unique entertainment. It will be my first trip to Chicago.

Thanks in advance,

we took the river cruise. it was a few hours long, we got to see a good chunk of the area. i forget which one we took though. i'd suggest staying someplace outside the city, its very expensive. and beware the roads in town, just looking at them in google are a bit daunting.

the river walk is a nice place to see as well. we were only there for like 3-4 hours, but i still shot quite a bit of it.

I'm not a local. Been there twice. Things I did while there....visited Lincoln Zoo, Buckingham Fountain, Millenium Park (Cloud Gate), Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, nights shots from top of Hancock Building and Skydeck, walked across Wacker Drive and got some night shots over the canal, last but not least skyline shots from Adler Planetarium. Spent a lot on parking throughout the day. Saw some crazy drivers there. Good luck! Chicago was a lot of fun.

Born and raised a Chicagoan, Ryan ....

You'll want to see what is arguably the most beautiful skyline in the world ... I suggest at sunrise .... and you'll want to make your way to the Planetarium campus as Andrea said to do so ... or the pier on North Avenue Beach.

You'll want to look into riding an 'L' train to really get a tour of the "loop" and urban area ... certain parts of the year they offer a free visitors tour.

You'll want to get on a water taxi and ride the Chicago River. You can take a Wendela architectural tour but the Taxi really lets you experience the Midwest personality of the Chicago people.

For food, try Aurelio's Pizza on South Michican Avenue by the Museum Campus ... ask for your pizza in the old oven, as its made the original way from the owners family in Calabria.

For other Italian dishes I suggest 'Gene and Gorgetti' ... check them out online and you'll see why .... let me know 'who' you bump into.

I would send you to Navy Pier but don't remember if its open in November ... but you'll find a mix of Chicago food establishment options.

Please let me know what you're interests are and I'll zone it in for you a bit. I'd also be happy to meet you for coffee if you have time, or go shooting some pictures.
