Industrial Art

Just saw this article on artistic Icelandic electrical pylons. It's a real shame that this didn't come to fruition as it would have been fun and could have started a global trend... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3248509/Not-blot-landscape-Icelandic-architects-create-series-designs-statue-like-electricity-pylons-shaped-like-humans.html

Reminds me of the movie "Troll Hunter". Those electrical pylons are actually a troll containment fence.

Richard that is so cool! Amazing what a difference it makes in looking at these usually ugly structures. Thank you for sharing.

We have around here a few cell towers that are supposed to look like pine trees...they sort of do but not really...they still stand out in a weird way. Too bad they didn't take this approach.

I wish there was more art involved in civil engineering.

I too wish there was a little more "artistry" included in engineering projects. That's not to say that industrial designs aren't often beautiful in their own way, but this one caught my eye.

Cool idea! It will be more interesting if we could see this kind of design :)!

They awaken into Icelandic giants at night and play cat's cradle.:)

makes you wonder what the future generations would think if they saw that... especially if they get hit by lightning.

around here they are replacing the stacks with long concrete tubes. i can see those as having a lot of maintenance issues.

I like the electrical trees we have now, it follows "form follows function (?)." There is some great art and photography being done with electrical trees. I think a better blend with the scenery if it was a rusted metal rather then a cold grey, a warmer grey may work too. It's not to say the shape couldn't be improved. For example the rusted metal looks good on the low highway barriers rather than the cold grey metal often used.

these would make better cell towers. those things are ugly, many of them look like bad trees. i can see this working well to hold that kind of power instead.
