Do You Comment Without Favoriting?

I see many views and comments but not as many favoriting of the same image. I try to comment if I favorite an image so the artist knows why I liked it.
Do you do this or vice versa?

I often comment without Favoriting.

Appreciating an image enough to leave a comment or 'Like' does not automatically make that image a 'Favorite'. I 'like' the Mona Lisa -- but it's never been on my list of 'favorite art'. ;-)

I comment without favoriting ALL the time. I save my favorites for images I really love and want to see again. I comment on WAY more images than I favorite. The comment is for the artist. The favorite is for me.

To answer your question: Yes, I do comment without favoriting (and vice versa).

My favorites are reserved only for those images I would consider owning. I don't favor solely for the purpose of promotion. I go through new uploads and "like" and/or comment as time allows or if I feel compelled to do so. As Wendy said, there is art that I like and appreciate but is not necessarily a favorite.

I never comment without also hitting the Like button! If you are taking the time to comment, why wouldn't you? It's right there. Favorites for me are far more selective.

Yep, all the time. My favorites are just that, my favorites.

i don't comment or favorite at all. i see no point in that.

If I'm moved to comment it's usually because I love the image....therefore I usually do comment/like/fave...sometimes follow as well.

I think I have 40 pages of favorites here. I really like a diverse type of art and photography, so I have a BUNCH. That said, I will sometimes comment without favoriting, but if I like it enough to favorite, I will also hit the like button. I think if you like it enough to comment, it's nice for the artists to get a "like" as well.

Once again mark your calendars. I totally agree.

This is becoming a habit!

I used to write comments and favorite some other artists' work, spent a lot of time...

The two are not necessarily related. Just because I comment on an image doesn't mean I also want to make it a favorite.

i'd make comments if i wasn't making the commitment of being on their list forever. make a comment see all comments for ever in the activity screen. favorites just lead people out of your store. if they were private, maybe i'd consider it. but this assumes i'm even looking at other people's work. i only look when i critique them. its not like facebook where you can like and comment. its more like youtube where there are a million views and 10 likes.

I do like Patricia. I favorite stuff I would hang in my gallery if I ever open my own brick and mortar shop.

The likes and comments come when a piece moves me.

Comment and favourite - together and independently

I'll sometimes comment on a work if I genuinely like it and sometimes I'll favour a work if I genuinely love the work and sometimes I'll do both.

I comment on art that really catches my eye but it has to really capture something in me to add it to my favorite s d I can go view someone's art later.

LOL - Mike is great...there are no surprises figuring where he is going with something. To add to the "polling" question. I never favorite...I comment on an image if it is something I really like...if the image is something i really, really like, I go see more work from that person and if i still really really like what i see, I send a message to that person saying that I really like their stuff. I have no fear in letting others know my feelings (or opinions for that matter) - - and I appreciate someone doing the same if they found my work interesting

in the end there is very few things i actually like. it might sound mean, but it is what it is. usually the stuff i like is the stuff people stole from. i can hardly comment on that though. many think they feel a social obligation when writing, but its not needed. you can like something without comment. you can comment without liking. but in the end it doesn't really help you at all. it might have at one time, but i can't imagine it being a strong force in the search now. at worst, commenting sends people off your page. but it depends what you write, and if the buyer knows to click or cares to click. at best it adds words to your page for google. the likes don't do anything. fav's will add a link on your enemies site. which is good i guess. hard to know if a buyer found your work that way or not.

I Like more than Comment. I Comment more than Favorite. I Favorite very, very few.

To me it doesn't make sense to Fav and Like the same image because I understand it doesn't rank it any more than if you just did one of the two.

I Comment on images that are more than a Like and thus don't 'Like' it. ... for the same reason above.

me too. one without the other, and less favorites of the three.

I mostly click Like on the stuff I like. More so than not, I will add a Comment at the same time. I save Favorites for when I'm really impressed. I wonder why we only receive notifications on Comments and Favs and not Likes?

Mike, is that why I keep seeing that stuff in my activity over and over again, because I commented on it once? Hmmm.

yep, or your watching them. but if its on the same image over and over, yep. when i saw that, that's when i stopped.

I don't usually comment because I don't like all subsequent comments being irrevocably added to my activity stream.
I only favorite a few of the works of a few of my favorite artists.

I don't always favorite an image. I will comment more than favorite or whatever the other option was. I guess to be honest, I like to comment but like Patricia, the favorites are one's I'm might consider buying. First I need to paint over all the murals in my house...but I'm dreaming of all white walls and prints that I love. So while I love some art for its creative element, my favorites are for shopping at a later date.

Yes. I'm with Wendy J. St Christopher.
It seems, however, when I do 'Like' an image, I get a message telling me that the Like helps with the search engine finding that image a bit more easily. Not the Favoriting!

For me, a Favorite is something I REALLY TRULY AND ABSOLUTELY love and would want it on my wall, meaning I would buy it.
I would have thought that was a more important guide to possible future sales, not a Like.
But, who am I to quibble...

As others have mentioned here, I have curtailed my comments greatly due to having an image show up over and over in my activity stream every time someone comments on it. I would think it would be in FAA's interest to address that issue in order to keep the ball rolling and members participating. It's kind of a silly reason not to comment on something you may really want to, but there you go. Pretty sure I have made this request on the suggestions thread, as have others.
