Hi all,
I wanted to know if anyone could help me out with a question about changing the domain for my personal site that comes with the premium account. I should clarify that I don't want to purchase a personal domain name, and the one with my name and a dash in between it is fine, but because I signed up for FAA with my actual name and then changed to the pseudonym I work under in the my profile after upgrading to premium, they seem to have taken my actual name and used it for the url. I'm not sure how much the website does with Google rankings but I don't want a website with my real name floating around, and I feel like paying a $30 fee should be enough to either have a site with my pseudonym in the url or take the site down completely (although I'd prefer to have it up with the pseudonym). FAA hasn't gotten back to me, so I'm reaching out here. Any help would be appreciated and aside from this I'm excited to be joining this community!
Best,
Michael

Michael, once you reach support, they can change it to whatever name you want as long as that name isn't being used elsewhere.

Hi Abbey, I want to do the same thing but in my 3 months as a premium customer, I have not gotten around to it. My faa site is http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/4-robert-newman.html
my own domain name site is http://www.newwwman.com - I want my faa artist site to be http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/newwwman.html
Can you forward this to customer support as my request or do you have a link where I make the request direct to them? Thank you.

Abbie..... Not a monastery lol :)
I have changed your link to http://newwwman.fineartamerica.com this will cover pixels and a premium site also

Will changing cause links that have been tweeted, posted to google+ to be dead links or will they carry over?
I'd like to do this also as my AW starts with a "2-" but not if all my links out there will be obsolete.

i think you got to get it right the way you want it sometime in my opinion ... even if old links mite be invalid
8 Years Ago
Sharon, old links may be invalid but I find people normally are looking at your new more
8 Years Ago
Abbie, could you change mine to
http://sharonnorman.fineartamerica.com, and also for pixels and my AW?
It'll be worth any bad links to get rid of the 2- in front of my name.
Thanks!

Abbie can you please change my URL as well ..
From frank-j-casella to frankjcasella
I've been going back and forth on this for some time, which usually is a sign that I need to do it. Hyphens are more for eyeballs than for search, so this will then be consistent with my Branding. I understand all the FAA branded sites will be my same URL then.
Thank you very much!
Frank, about the hyphens, are you saying that the search engines prefer a domain name without hyphens? In other words, better search results and seo?
Thanks for asking, Carol, when I looked into it several months ago, what I remember is that hyphens work best to separate titles with multiple words or words that can have more than one meaning. So, its mostly for eyeballs.

Thanks for replying Frank :)
I have hyphens in my domain name, so it looks like I'll be going back and forth on this subject as well until I make up my mind.

Hi Abbie,
Sorry about that and thanks for the prompt response - I had set up a new gmail account specifically for FAA and it wasn't forwarding any of the emails to my personal account. Would you be able to change it to http://mwilliam.artistwebsites.com/ and if that's already taken then you can do http://michaelwilliam.artistwebsites.com/. I also wanted to ask if there was any way to use the Facebook app on my fan page without it showing anything on my personal FB page? I know you have to connect ii with your personal page first, but I'd prefer not to have anything show up on the personal page, just the fan page.
Thanks!
Michael

Hi, I changed it to http://mwilliam.artistwebsites.com
Go into default settings.
Untick the personal Facebook.

Btw, I noticed that on my "Shop" page it says that I joined FAA on December 31st 1969 :-} Not something that I think is going to drive people away from my page, but its a quirk I thought you might want to be aware of.
Mine also says: December 31st 1969 on my shop page!
Abbie, will a new URL affect our FAA presence on Google search?
Yes, I have to retrain the search, Jessica. Search my name with 'art' and the FAA links forward to the front page. No worries on my end ... in the long term ( good thing it's not Christmas season ).

Hi Abbie,
I just noticed a post that says "Michael William is now selling on Fine Art America" on my personal Facebook page about 2 hrs. ago, but I'm trying to avoid having any connection to my FAA profile on my personal page. I followed your instructions and un-ticked the "Post to Facebook" option in default settings but this seems to only prevent posts about new print uploads. How can I prevent any posts that have to do with FAA from being shown on my personal page? I also noticed that it posted to my personal page, but not my fan page.
Thanks,
Michael

It is not meant to have done that. Delete the post and you should not get a new one. I am sorry about that

Hi Abbie,
New premium member here. I would like to change my profile name to Shungaboy across all FAA platforms.
My current profile: http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/shungaboy-x.html
I saw a last name sort somewhere. I prefer my name to be the single name Shungaboy, no last name.
I've read a lot of the forum discussions re pseudonyms, PayPal, image links, etc., very helpful. I'm still trying to figure out how to integrate the premium website with my existing domain (http://www.shungaboy.com), where I have a shopping cart for my original paintings. I'd like to embed my FAA site as a subset of my dot com and don't know if I need to get an additional URL to do that (i.e. www.shungaboy-prints.com or similar). I don't want the FAA site to replace my existing homepage. If you have links/resources, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,
Shungaboy
ps I haven't uploaded my profile pic yet because I want to sort this domain issue before uploading images and making my profile publicly visible.

Hello
I have changed the URL on your website to http://Shungaboy.fineartamerica.com
This will cover all our sites (See Behind the Scenes | DOMAINS) and a premium site
I hope this helps
Go into your premium features (BEHIND THE SCENES) and use the shopping widget on a page on your domain in an html area

Abbie, Thank you for the quick response!
I'm checking out the shopping cart widgets. Thanks again.

Hi Abbie,
I posted in another thread that I was continuing to see links in google images to faa urls with my real name in it - not sure if you responded and it didn't get to me and if so I apologize. It seems that there are even more links to these it's than there were before when I search. I regret opening the account with my real name, but it's been over a month and I'm guessing they should have disappeared by now. What can I do about this save for closing my account?

I am afraid there will be lots of links. Google takes a while to stop showing pages it has already indexed

I find artists who use their real names more believable and transparent.
Pseudo names or screen names seem evasive. "What are you scared of?" is a question that tends to come to mind.
I always use my real name now. I stand behind it 100%. ... If I were to become famous, then I would want history to record my existence with this name.
My last name was mispronounced all through childhood, ... but I don't care, .. I just correct people now - it gives me more of an excuse to cement the name into somebody's memory.

Hi Abby
if you are reading this post lol
could you try and change my personal FAA page from http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/andrew-hunter-.html to fineartamerica.com/profiles/fineartbyandrewdavid
as with my artist website http://andrew-hunter-.artistwebsites.com/ the link for this has never worked properly so as of now i am using a custom domain name
for which is gallery.fineartbyandrewdavid.co.uk have a look at the domain for my artist website http://andrew-hunter-.artistwebsites.com/ and see what can be done there
thanks
Andrew

I have done that. You will need to forward the site to the new address if forwarding as this changes your premium address also.

Good morning Isabella Abbie. Could you help me with removing the dashes and the number 1 in my personal site address?
https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-berlun-co.html
I would really like it to just be berlunco.html
I sure appreciate all your help. You are very kind to everyone on this post.
Thank you.

... very kind, indeed.
Could you take out the dot and add two smiley face emoticons and some random symbols to indicate cursing in mine?
CHANGE ... http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/robert-kernodle.html ... to
http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/(^_*)(*_*)!#?&*!
... just kidding.
