How Do I Get More Votes In Various Contests?

I don’t want to come across as whiney and I don’t mean to complain. I am just asking for advice. I wonder how I can get more people to vote for my work in contests. I understand that many members here have higher quality photographs. People have more attractive images. I don’t expect to win any contest. It just seems as though my images are more worthy than just one solitary vote (made often by myself or by my girlfriend). I’ve joined many contests here and I doubt that I’ve even shown up anywhere on any leader board. Should I post links to my pictures from Facebook and beg my friends to join FAA and to vote for me. I guess that I need to learn to take better pictures with a better camera and edit my photos well. Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated. My hobby is still a work in progress.

First of all the contests are for fun, no prizes. Some contests ask you not to solicit votes. You can post to social media if the contest allows.

I enter contests, too, but my advice would be to not them seriously at all. Remember the goal is to sell here, not win contests. Make sure if you solicit for votes that there are no rules against that in the contest you're in

What Jessica said, I enter contests for the fun of them, they very very rarely lead to any sales. Also remember most contests have hundreds of entries and most people aren't really going to look at all of them when the time to vote comes.

Yeah. They are fun and there are many outstanding images. I'll take it in stride. Thanks.

I was thinking about this recently, too, since I have the same problem. I tend to send something out as soon as I get a contest announcement, but my submissions always end up really close to the end of the images to vote on. I suspect that means the images go up in reverse order, so the closer you are to the deadline before sending something, the more visibility you'll get. As Brian said, if there are hundreds of images in a contest most people won't look at all of them, which means the closer you are to the front of the pack the more likely you are to get votes.

Just a little bit of voter psychology and maybe worth a try.

the contests are prizeless, there isn't much point worrying about them. even if you get first place you won't get higher in the search and buyers don't care either. usually people spam their friends to get them higher up. but i think that kind is against the whole point of being in a contest. usually you get votes because people like it.

I started getting more votes and actually winning a few after my images got better. I've removed a lot of images that weren't really up to par, and I still have quite a ways to go. I've found that the exercise of entering contests really makes me view my image like others would. I've deleted quite a few after entering them into contests, and then after viewing them as a voter would, decided they really weren't images I took much pride in, so down they came. Some I've reworked.

Enter the smaller contests with a narrower subject matter. You'll have a better chance that way.

I think Mike has it nailed with, "usually people spam their friends to get them higher up." I have managed to look at the votes right after receiving an announcement email that voting is open - and see a couple of images with several votes "already"- noting that there hasn't been enough time for anyone to look through them all. Gee, I wonder how that happens.

I enter the contests for fun and to look at related pieces in the "theme" of the contest. It gives me some basis for comparison with my own work. That is the only real takeaway I see to the contests. With that said - I do go through the lists a couple times a week and enter new ones that "fit" something I have. Usually I get one or two votes and sometimes none - when I neglect to vote. LOL

Treat contests as fun and that's what they will be.

They run contests on this site?

The contests on this site are not art contests, they are popularity contests.

It's not worth to put too much time in the contests. Watch Your views while the contest is running. You will notice not too much impact. Look to the hometown of the one who started the contest: often You will not find a view from them! Very disappointing. Many voters only observe the leaderboard and vote from the images which still have votes. That is the solution for the lazy ones. FAA should not show a leaderboard before the end of voting.

My solution in the end: some clicks for uploading, ready. No more work.

As every one has mentioned ,contests are for fun.I enter many contests.as sometimes a contest theme inspires me to create .Again its just a fun thing and it does help with getting my work seen by others that would not otherwise no my art exists. I let my work get there on its own merits.:)

Think in terms of "EXPOSURE", since the "contest" concept here is not set up for real merit competition. Yes, take it with a grain of salt, but you can still gain exposure for your work. I'm not an expert on marketing but I believe that's one of the first steps.

One thing I do is make sure my image gets on the "Leaderboard" page since I'm pretty sure that's where many, if not most people will go to view and vote instead of the actual individual image pages. To insure that my image gets to the leaderboard page, I vote for it myself. I can't depend on anyone else to do that. Some hosts don't want you to vote for your own image, but I don't think they understand the reason for doing it and besides, there should be a "rule" that no one can tell you how to vote!
