2016 Art & Framing Expo

Welcome to the West Coast Art & Framing Expo!
Trade Show: January 25 – 27, 2016 | Conference: January 24 – 27, 2016
http://s19.a2zinc.net/clients/ezhobbypub/wcaf16/public/enter.aspx

Every member of FAA should attend this show.

I will guarantee you that you will get ten times your money back in applying what you can learn and not even go to one breakout session.

Just work the trade show floor, and that part is free. Meet artist, publishers, print makers, manufactures, gallery owners. ALL of them will be there and they ALL want to talk to you.

If you are trying to sell your art you need to invest in gaining as much knowledge as you can about the trade you are in.

If you looking for a publisher, they will be there. Take a CD with your images on them. Better yet, take your iPad and have your gallery loaded.

Talk to people, ask questions.

You will learn ten times more about selling your art and the art business in one or two days on the trade show floor then you will learn in ten years on the FAA threads.

Is it open to the general public or only to the trade? Do you need special pass to enter?

Open to the public but you do need to register. I don't know what registration fee is.

Go to the webpage and find the list of exhibitors and see if there is anyone that you recognized that is going to be there. Even if you only use their products.

Contact them and ask for a pass. The hand them out to anyone that asks, or at least they used to.

Here's another tip.

If you have a local frame shop, gallery, art supply store or anyone in the art business, ask them if they have passes. Ask them if the recognize and of the suppliers. If they are using any of the suppliers, they can get you passes.

I used to give away a hundred passes a year.

It has been about 5 years, maybe longer since I have gone so a lot may have changed. I am planing on going this year if possible.

Oh, and it is tax deductible. (The show is, not the money you put in the slots! LOL)

'fraid so Floyd! It would be lovely to see more of these opportunities in my neck of the woods.

FAA members should organize a cocktail hour or some other kind of greet and meet.

Actually Sean should be there and sponsor a hospitality room for all FAA members.

No, wait, forget Sean, he should pay for Abbie , Dawn and all the gals from office to do it. But Sean should have it catered so the FAA reps can have a good time! lol

Floyd,

You are so right! These show are a real eye opener for anyone that has never been.

On the east coast the New York Art Expo is good too. I have walked and worked a booth in New York in the past. Long days but fun.

I would be a little surprised that Sean doesn't have a booth at both shows.

I might go to Vegas, I have family in CA and could make a week long trip out of it.

curious about East Coast offerings though.

Bump because as many people as possible need to go to one of these shows for the reasons stated above.

Would love to go there but I have the same problem as Dorothy - loooong way... ;-)

Thanks for posting this kind of stuff Floyd, your marketing advice is always appreciated!

I am going to be following the exhibitors list and see if any vendors will be added that yell out to me, "Come on down!"

I suggest everyone do the same.

I know the FAA framing company used to attend this show for instance. Ever thought of printing your own Giclees? I bet money they will be there to sell you a printer and tell you exactly what a 24 x 36 inch print will cost you on paper or canvas. And all other sizes, including all the materials.

I have not looked real close yet but I would bet there will be a number of larger publisher there. Maybe you make a contact they end up publishing you stuff, if that is something you are interested in.

I haven't been in a few years but I may attend this one.

I just received another update to this show and I guess there has been several exhibitors added to the list. (Link in the post right above)

Once again I suggest that there is a lot to learned by attending one of these shows and getting a real inside look of how the trade lives and breaths.

I know it if geared to professional picture framers, but buying, selling and producing prints is considered part of that industry.

Floyd, thank you posting this! I had never thought about going to something of that magnitude - but what a great suggestion!

For those of us who may be closer to New York -
The New York Art Expo is in April 2016 - looks amazing!

The date is nearing... make your plans....

In a recent thread they were discussion a topic that was thought to be new. It has in fact been around for several years. I had seen it demoed at one of these shows several years ago.

If you like to know what is going on in the industry... attending these trade shows will give you a wealth of information and expose you to any number of resources from top vendors in the trade.

Just thought I would bump this in case anyone wants to find it easily and make plans for an FAA meet and greet suggested in that other thread. :-)

Floyd Snyder

Bumping again.

I think these sort of events can be a fantastic educational opportunity.

I hope some take the opportunity to make the event even if you just go to the vendors exhibit hall.

People keep talking about the print business in general. If you really want to learn the business you are in, go to this or any other of the EXPO. Go to several of them and try to spend a as much time as you can.

With no offense to FAA, you are getting about a 8th grade education in the print business here, if that high. Go to a few of these EXPOS and in no time at all you will have a Phd in the print business.
