Why Do Our Images Not Show Up In Google Anymore?

I used to google my name and I would see image after image of my works that are posted on FAA. How come they do not show up anymore? What is the reason for them not showing up? Did FAA change their code so they don't show up on search engines? I know search engines but most sites just change along with it.

Now I just see a few sprinkled in here and there.

Is this why visitors to FAA have dropped so much?

Alexa only show visitors using the Alexa toolbar, Alexa extensions or using Alexa addons so that is not really a good standard to go by. Visitors have not dropped on the site overall

Google does customise everybodies search so what you see is not what I would see when searching for the same thing

John Rizzuto

Alexa is the standard most companies use to track web traffic and google does not customize everybody's search. They only customize your search result if you are a google user and you are logged on. Since I am talking about the results I see, that statement doesn't apply anyway.

I used to get that as well Bill. But have noticed over the past few months that less and less of my images have been showing up on Google. Almost as if they are blocked.

you do not have to be logged in to get the same customised adverts and results. I tested it

Ok google my name john rizzuto and click images and post the URL here

Angelina Tamez

I see my images on Google.

I wonder if you can contact google directly and ask if there is a reason they are being blocked?

I know Angel your page looks just like Bill's above. Mine used to look like that as well.

That would upset me if I found all my images gone, especially with the large body of work you have.

If I were you I would talk to Google. If anyone knows why, it's them.

Sorry John that I'm not more techy but I copied and pasted the text that showed up when I googled your name. Under images your picture is the first one. I did not, however get individual images of yours to come up. When I googled my own name there are several of my images showing instead of profile pictures.

Actually, Alexa is a poor indicator of "real" traffic. Few of us in the affiliate marketing industry use it any more. Most of us gave up on it at least five years ago. There are some diehards that still use it to judge the viability of applicants into an affiliate program, but those programs are not usually very successful (possibly because they are being run by an uniformed affiliate manager). Alexa numbers can also be (fairly) easily manipulated.

John Rizzuto

Thanks Kathy. When I used to do that, just google my name and click images, I would see 1,000's of my images that are not posted on FAA. Not anymore evidently.

John,

According to that Alexa chart, seems the entire site has moved backward, instead of upwards, which is what I would expect, will "sales" being the same or better. All the new products, new members, and additional sites, cloned sites, you would think that the number would be better.

Here's Alexa and Pixels.com info: ttp://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/pixels.comh

How do I do a search for my name and have the images come up, like yours?

Rich

John Rizzuto

Yeah profiles but not too many images from FAA. Do you the same for Angelina and you will see lots and lots of images from FAA. My images results pages used to be 1,000s of images that I have posted on FAA.

John Rizzuto

Just go to google Rick and type in your name. When the web results come up just click "images" link under the search toolbar.

Hi.

I've been looking into this myself, i found one photo in Google's images from someone on here, when i looked how the photo was worded it was no different to mine.

I'm running different tests with certain wordings so on but this will take weeks to update.

Not sure why FAA is so bad with Google, I've got photos from where i used to sell still in Google's images yet they have been gone well over 5 months.

I've seen a number of people saying the same things with Google indexing, it can be a pain and a big one.

Kate.

No Rich, see the link I just posted in this thread. There are a few images of mine there but not to many. It used to be 1,000's of them would show up when I did the same search of the url in this thread. Search Angelina Vick and click images. That is how my results used to look for my name. I am just wondering why all of sudden none of my images show up on google when I search my name. Trying to figure out what has changed that would have caused this to impact only me but not others?

Bill Swartwout

John - I just did a Goog image search and added the word "art" (also "artist") to your name and came up with a page full of images, with your profile photo in the first position/

https://www.google.com/search?q=john+rizzuto+art&biw=1299&bih=683&source=lnms&tbm=isch

Strange indeed. Possibly I end up with my images because I have an uncommon name - and there may be a lot of people with your name. The Google has been striving to make search as relevant as possible and having a fairly well-known name may promote dilution.

BTW, I am seeing almost the same mix on Bing.

I understand about the name thing Bill. I have been doing this for years just search my name to see who is using my images on their blogs and such. But for almost 10 years my images would show up in volume when I did it. No matter what site I was on. It is just over the past few months I noticed them dropping slowly and slowly and then today; hardly any of them are showing up anymore. Wish I knew how to search google archived image search results and I would show you.

Tried your name again and added "art" and FULL of images! Don't know what that means......

I should have used a different name when I started my account. It seems there's also an MM Anderson who is an author with a book about werewolves. When I try "MM Anderson art" in Google I get a few rows of my images and then it starts into photos of actors named Anderson. I doubt if anyone is searching for my art by my name anyway but maybe someday.

actually no. i make photos mostly. but what i make, makes little difference. it also can't be added up like that since some images on here aren't really meant to be on sale - like buttons and before and after. even though they are for sale.

ideally i can only assume the want diversity. but only google will know. and maybe a week from now it will all go back again because of a cycle of some kind.

on the plus side John Rizzuto art -- comes up with you mostly. and bing you do show up with just your name. really hard to know why.

With my name, the image search has never resulted in more than a few of my images. Most are of the journalist, chemist, or Robert Redford. But using "Robert Woodward Photography" in the search I get many more of mine showing up.

If I do a search for myself using Bing, my AW link/site loads, at the top of the page. With Google, my FAA link/site shows, down about the 3rd space, along with some of my images, and a multitude of others with my name, and variations of the name.

Jessica Jenney

Same here, Greg! My AW site is at the top in Bing and can't be found on Google! And I have my own domain name: JessicaJenney.com! Go figure!

I can see my FAA images in Google search mixed in with other POD sites etc.

Have no idea how Google Search works, or how changes are done. While we may like to see our name search show OUR images, only a few may show, mixed with other sometimes unrelated images. So confusing. Now if you want to see how your art shows then Google your style or however you want to list your type of art and see if any of your artwork shows. There is where others, who do not know you, might find your art or photography. I figure only friends, family (plus yourself) might Google your name!! That likely won't make sales. So HOW do you get your artwork....say for example : "Equine artwork" Watercolor Landscapes", "Skyline Photography" show on Google? Whatever you do best in your art is where you want your art to show for others to find you. So, how does Google choose those?

Maybe Google has started recognizing the loads of Congratulations comments as spam and is downgrading pages because of them.

Is there any way to block comments on our pages?

Google your name John for images but add the word 'Artist' after it and you will see your images. They're still there. If you just google your name without the descriptor you'll see a bunch of other men that don't look like you.

David Bridburg

actually no. i make photos

Mike,

I use photos in PS as well. My photos are of artworks.

Just taking photos and doing a small amount of processing is a different story.

I agree the stats I posted do not matter much, but they tell a story that can not be ignored either.

Dave

Might be Google image is clamping down on personal names since most people searching for personal names are searching for images of the actual person which unless you are the artist who wants your work to be found, images of the person are perhaps more useful for searchers. I know this is currently only happening to you but there may be others not active in these discussions. As well, you may just be the first in Google's personal name algorithm changes list, there may be more to come. I don't search for my personal name since it is secondary to my art name "wingsdomain", but from the few searches I remember doing on my personal name in the past compared to now, I do seem to see less of my images, or maybe it's just a mirage? -W

Wayne Sherriff

John Rizzuto,

Type your name in Google search followed by the word 'photography' or 'fine art america' or 'pixels' or whatever site you have your work on and you will get better results. I just tried it on your behalf and all I could see was your images.

Wayne

Continuiing my prior post, I did a search on a random name I just saw here on the forum list, "Christine till" (she's got over 1,100 images on faa), and google also returned a lot of faces, and very few art images itself. Not that that is going to help you but at least there's a possibility that Google is just going through their changes and updating their database, and most if not all personal names will be weighted on images of the person itself when Google is all said and done. Just my 2 cent. -W

Yup, "judy kay", 600 images on faa, Google returned pictures of people, not her art images. -W

I appreciate the suggestion pertaining to Google and my name but I thought the point of paying for a premium membership and getting an artist website, in my case called John Rizzuto, was so that when people googled my name (not by adding artists or photography to the end of it) they would be able to find my images on web search engines.

If people can not find you or your works how can they buy one of your prints?

Jeffery Johnson

I just did search for you and you are coming up as the first entry in a Google search.

Here is another tidbit of information regarding google searches and finding FAA images....

If you search for the town you live in...ie, Artists, photographer, Timbucktwo, BC, Canada. - (no name, just where you live), which is right under your name on our profile page.

Not-a-one is listed, not a website nor a image, from FAA. Why is that?

@ John, "If people can not find you or your works how can they buy one of your prints?"

Sales, what sales??????

Cheers, Barbara

To add insult to injury...the few images from FAA that do show up...under at search, "artist, photographer, Grand Forks, BC, Canada....

wait for it....here it comes...drum roll please...they are artists whose work I commented on....here on FAA. Months ago....not my work.

Yes, some of the sites I'm on, ie, linked in, do show up, but not images of my art, only my profile avatar.

Time for a glass of wine.

Hi John, ( and everyone else who are interested ) - I'm no expert, but I think this has more to do with Google's " Penguin ", and " Panda " algorithm updates over the last couple of years which control their search criteria. The algorithms are now more contextual, more specific if you will, so unless you type in art, artists, or photographer after the name, it simply returns results, and maybe profile pictures for people with that name.
The " Penguin " update in particular, first imposed a couple of years ago, decimated image heavy sites such as FAA. I'm sure Sean would admit to that if cornered, but there's really not much he can do about it since those criteria are still in place. The sum of the changes to the search algorithm places much more emphasis on the content, and " authority " of a site, not the images, since they are not " crawled " by the search spiders. Sites which were deemed to have " duplicate content ", spam, or unnatural links were also heavily penalized by these changes. Just ask anyone whose had a site on here for more than 2 years, and I'm sure most of them will tell you that they've seen a drop off in " real ", ( not bot ) visits over the last year and a half or so.
I think the last update was in October of 2014, so they're about due for another one.

Hope this info helps. Fear the Penguin. Tom

Good insight...thank you, Thomas!

John Rizzuto

Thanks Thomas. The only issue I have with that statement is that if it is a google thing wouldn't it impact all members and not just a few? Look at the links I posted as samples of other people in this thread. Before the big skip. Those searches on google were done with just the persons first and last name that they use on FAA. I didn't have to put artist or photographer after their names to get their images to show up.

Thomas Lovelace

Yeah John, you're right. Those algorithm changes should have affected everyone whose a member at the same level in general, so I'm not sure if that's what is causing the problem. Very confusing! I suppose you could email someone at the " Big G " and ask for clarification, but if you've ever tried that before, it's kind of like talking to the Wizard of Oz sometimes, so you may not get a satisfactory answer.
If you are able to get to the bottom of it, please post your findings on this thread, as I'm as curious as you are as to why the search results would differ, with or without images, from name to name. There are some pretty savvy computer experts who are members here on FAA, so perhaps they could provide some insight. Surely it has something to do with the search criteria, or maybe the image tags, but if you're name is in the tags, I can't figure out why they would suddenly not show up.
Let me know if you find out anything. Dazed and Confused - Thomas
