Phyllis, I went to Chatfield Reservoir -- which is fresh water (we are in Colorado, after all, no oceanfront property here!). I counted over two dozen pelicans. They were awesome!! Plus a couple of cormorants, a blue heron, and, of all things a sandpiper (or a bird that walks exactly like a sandpiper) walking around the parking lot.
Sandpipers must get pretty confused when there aren't incoming waves to run away from... this one seemed to be pretending to run away from waves, into the parking lot and back out to the grassy edge again. Weird bird. I never saw that before.
