No takers? Last call... No Youtubers out there? Where is the young or progressive art generation of any age of FAA? A missed opportunity here. -W

I actually gave up on artists sending me work as it was like trying to pull teeth without anaesthetic

I added puppies to bulk it up but will be adding new videos of my own work shortly :)

Thanks Abbies, nice channel, I checked yours out earlier through another topic here. Hint to other would be Tubers, think outside of the marketing box, Youtube is a great way to communicate with buyers that have a Youtube channel or let them know you exist, at the very least, Google will listen! ;-) -W

Hi, Wings! Here's my channel --

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCheAzc_ME8vWc4oezFvRDcA

And yes -- even though my view numbers are nowhere-near-viral, I've had some very good sales through YouTube, including a couple of entire series of work!

(edited to remove question to OP)

Abbie -- anytime you want/need a video for anything, nudge me! ;-)

To my video channel viewers -- please remember to 'Like' or 'SUBSCRIBE', while you're there!

Good idea for a thread Wings! I have one but I have not nearly spent the time developing it as much as I want to, I have to organize it and clean up, but I think it's an amazing way to get viewed! I want to create some videos to promote some of the art book collaborations I've been working on.

Hi Wings!!! Here's mine ... a couple of artsy ones and a couple from the model home / real estate photography I do. Great idea for a thread!!

: ))

I hope to find some time tonight to view the ones everyone else has posted ... these are always such fun!!!

Any thoughts on good vid programs for Macs? I've used the iMovie on mine and Lord ha' MERCY ... it's a bugger. Especially the newer one. I think the last one I did I put everything back on the old computer so I could use that version of the program, and even at that, it's no picnic.

NOT that I'm complaining or anything.

A little stray, pardon me. I would love to make a video of my work. However every time I try to upload one to youtube they won't allow the music I've chosen. I see thousands, like you did, Wings, who have added the perfect song (When You're Strange by Who) and are permitted. What am I doing incorrectly? Did you pay for it somehow? In anticipation, thanks so much.

Hi all, I've been away all day and was delighted to come back and see all this participation!

@Wendy, you've got a lot of wonderful videos!

@The rest, I'm slowly making my way through each one of your channels and looking forward to it.

@Mario, youtube would be a great way to promote your book, but don't give too much of it away in the video, else it will be hard to have people buy the actual book.

@Zueling, I think a channel is just part of your youtube account where you can set up different video categories or channels. You'll need a youtube account to upload videos.

@Lois, sorry I'm on a pc and use their moviemaker software. I was please with the software at first but after seeing others who use the same software, it now feels not as special, I want something more unique.

@Richard, doing video is definitely time consuming, but once you get started, the whole process seems to go by very fast.

The FAA youtube ads are great, I may someday try to make a true moving video instead of the slideshow videos I have now. The closest thing I have to a moving video is the one I show of the wall art I have all over my home, quickly done using an ipad, and that was done only because of a recent faa topic that asked about what we had on our own walls.

One way of connecting with potential buyers that I'm trying out is to search out videos with content that may be of interest to buyers or videos by the actual potential buyers themselves. I actually sit through the video and then leave a compliment or some sort of comment and I always sign off with an unobtrusive link to my website www.wingsdomain.com . This is not for everyone as some may have reservations about leaving links, but that's just a simple signature, the youtube's channel owner might actually want to see what and who you are anyhow. The signature link also gives Google something to think about, perhaps raising your Google value!?

@Sabrina, when I upload a video with music, Youtube lists a number of restrictions like the video may not be viewed in certain countries, or there may be ads added to the video, etc. I just say ok to that and I'm good to go. I know sites like Facebook will not show the youtube video if I try to embed it, but I'm ok with that.

-W

Thanks, Wings! :-)

I'm using a similar approach at YouTube; I think of it as 'Commenting With Deliberate Intent'! I don't leave a link, as I think my YouTube avatar is link enough. I think it's actually to my advantage for an interested party to view one or two of my videos before visiting the website. Also, I need to post my YT comments to G+ whenever possible. For whatever reason, I tend to forget G+ even exists. I don't care for the site, but should still try to maintain some sort of presence there.

I loved the good old days when I could leave a 'video response' on someone else's video. Leaving my own tower cranes video as a 'response' to the (then) most-viewed video about how tower cranes are assembled, resulted in my best YouTube day ever -- a 5-print series sold to a London YouTuber. Unfortunately, Google has done away with 'video response'. :-(

Still, there's so much potential at YouTube, I know I've barely scratched the surface. It sucks to be idea-rich and cash-poor, though you'd think I'd be used to that by now. :-/

Sabrina, try FMA for free music to add to your video.

I'm still scared to put much on Youtube for fear that I could be sued by the recording artist. Even on sites that offer free music like Mobygratis and FMA, I'm fearful of not reading every word of the license by using another artist's work for free. Nothing is ever free, and you have to give them credit in the way they describe in the license so that it does not appear that they endorse your work!

I've paid and that makes me feel better but popular music can run up to 2000.00 per song for independent film makers. Sometimes it's well worth it, but for just advertising your art, the free music sites are much better. I would never use music without paying, there are people being sued every hour for infringing on other artists. It will really suck if you cost your family money by being caught, so even if you use free music sites, make sure you read the license.

If you click on the song, there will be a license that you can read and it will state attribution rules, whether you can use it for commercial or creative commons...I know these terms are difficult to understand, but those who put music to their videos without understanding these concepts are really making themselves vulnerable to being sued. If you cannot use a song for commercial use, do not advertise that you sell on FAA or put your website in the video.

Anyhow, good luck to you in making that video with your art and music.

Lisa, From my own personal experience YouTube warns and even restricts The video of being played if there is a copyright infringement. Sometimes they restrict it from being played in specific countries while allowing it to play in others. There are hundreds of thousands of video's with people singing entire songs by popular artists. Their are choreographed dance pieces with home video's of entire songs who are sung by many artists, as well as background music to various projects. Like Facebook, they quickly remove the video and/ or give warnings if their is an infringement.

will take year but hope to have two channels that make regular money...

My Youtube Channel doesn't really directly have much to do with my photography, except that a lot of my photos were taken where I made the videos. They're about hiking and camping in the Adirondacks. I need to develop some sort of actual Youtube marketing plan.

I haven't looked at any artists Youtube channels here. When I was checking it out the only software I thought was decent and probably isn't bleary costs $70. The editor I worked with was difficult to work with and poorly done. I guess I will wait until better programs are out there. Right now the choices are limited and bleary, at least on my monitor. I see plenty of sharp photography on my screen so why can't the editors show it?!

Hi, Suzanne, I've mentioned this in other discussion threads, but you may not have seen it.

When viewing videos on YouTube, remember to go into Settings (gear-shaped icon, lower right) and choose a resolution that works for you. Many viewers use the default, or chose a lower resolution because of their particular hardware/ISP configurations -- which can result in a blurry or pixelated view. Most videos offer several higher choices, some up to 1080p.

If you've changed your settings and that's not the problem, it might be your monitor, graphics card, and/or drivers.

Think about this -- if everyone were seeing blurry YouTube videos, nobody would be watching YouTube; they certainly wouldn't have 1 billion unique viewers every month. Studios like Paramount wouldn't have dedicated channels offering their library of films on YouTube. If every video software was only capable of turning out blurry video, nobody would be buying and using premium priced apps.

Best of luck getting this sorted -- you're missing out! :-)
