New Camera Prevents Duplicate Photographs

Tired of seeing pictures of the same place over and over? This new concept camera prevents duplication. If the shot has already been taken, the camera says "NIEN!".

Says the creator: “Camera Restricta introduces new limitations to prevent an overflow of digital imagery,” he says. “As a byproduct, these limitations also bring about new sensations like the thrill of being the first or last person to photograph a certain place.”

So.... Reshooting the same place is bad? Like you only get one shot at it and then it's "oh, well. Sorry." I thought one good thing about digital was not having to worry about overshooting

Who is crazy enough to use this? I decide what I want to photograph myself.
Is there also a new fridge which does not allow You to open because You did already within the last 12 hours?

Oh. Like the light in that old shot is always by default, better than the light the new shot?
Gimmie a break. This begs for ridicule.

How many times to you go back to the same iconic spot, seeking your own optimal result?
How do you become assured that a given shot is definitive?

Ya, good luck with that.

I do no recommend you invest your IRA account in stock in this company.

Think of it more as a concept than an actual product.

The camera I'd like to see is a point and shoot that links to better photographs here on FAA. For example the tourist takes it to the Grand Canyon, enjoys a nice late breakfast and then wanders over to the canyon around 11:30. Points his camera in the general direction and snaps away.

Then the camera says "Well, that didn't come out so good, would you like to review and purchase some amazing shots from a selection of artists on FAA?"

Say, what??!!

"... new sensations...."??!!

"...first or last person to photograph a certain place.”

Maybe it vibrates.

Who thinks up these stupid ideas? Oh, yeah, probably the same people who thought up Windows 8.

Okay, so maybe there are a thousand photos of the Ponte Vecchio, but only one of them is mine. There are other more important things to invent out there. Could be just me, but If this woman went on the Shark Tank, they'd laugh her out of there in no time.

I'd like a camera that only takes good pictures. Anything you point it at turns into golden magic sparkling with liquid sapphires.

That's what I want

Mike Savad

i can't see how that would even be possible considering light, angle, height, things that are different than last time. and what is different? not to mention that camera looks kind of stupid...

its not the view, its how you present it in the end.

It is interesting that the concept focuses on a single use of a camera - to record one's trips. Although this is probably one of the top selling points for camera manufacturers. Between vacation photos and family snaps, this probably covers the top reasons people buy cameras.

The idea that an artist might be behind the camera offering a unique view of the world is not considered.

Um

Let's watch the racist comments......

A squirrel would have worked on that point.

Good catch JC.

The other flaw of this concept is that it doesn't consider the missing component that makes the shot valuable to the shooter - the family member standing in front of the over shot icon landmark.

JC Findley

BIZARRE concept btw.

I am sure it only considers images shot on the specific camera not all images ever shot of the subject.

Yes, it might prevent artists on FAA from uploading 23 ever so slightly different versions of the same shot and that would be good. BUT, it would also prevent an artist from shooting 5 versions then picking the best.

Greg Jackson

Wouldn't that also prevent one from taking multiple shots for the purpose of HDR work?

Hmmm...you could corner the market on a particular vantage point by standing there w the camera on blast. People would have to buy ~your~ photo of it because no one else could ever take another ;)

Creating the actual camera is over kill. Its almost Big Brother like. But an app that did the same thing would be just as useful.

Take out your cell phone to snap a shot and a big warning starts flashing on the screen "WARNING YOU ARE ABOUT TO BORE PEOPLE TO TEARS WITH THIS SAME OLD SAME OLD SHOT - WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE 100,000 OTHER VERSIONS OF THIS SAME SHOT?"

Maybe this could be a feature on POD sites - "I SEE YOU ARE ABOUT TO UPLOAD - WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IF THERE ARE BETTER SHOTS ALREADY UPLOADED?" ;-)

I guess the solution to overcome not being able to take a shot where others have been taken before, is to use a camera other than the one in the video. I also noticed what I think Mike posted previously, in that the camera body looks "different", and I'm wondering what material it's made of.

Greg Jackson

I clicked on the author's name, shown in the top left corner of the video, and got to a post about the concept camera, and it shows what's inside. The camera body was made by 3D printing, so that's why it looks "different", for lack of a better word. Read the entire article (it's not too long, and has pictures!) :)

the fact that the camera just ruined my shot (now that i can see it in english). is a terrible function.

oh no, someone else just got the award winning shot of that fire/alien/comet etc. and it blocks the view finder and stops you from taking the shot?

that would go beyond annoying... however if it could tell you what that building is called and tag that into the image, that would be useful. i do wonder though how much battery this eats up. and how long it takes to get those images to you. are you faster than the camera?

but basically what its saying is - the last guy shot it. your not allowed, too bad if you spent all that money to go to france or some other scenic place. the last guy beat you to it -- ha ha.

i'm sure it will just fly off the shelves.

Its not meant for the shelves, its conceptual art. At least I hope it is.

...

So the reverse app would highlight places on earth that haven't been shot. You could set it to find the least shot places with in one mile of where you are standing. If the app says the East Boondocks Dump has never been photographed - BINGO you have your weekend planned.

From the link I posted earlier:

"Camera Restricta is a speculative design...", as in "theoretical, rather than practical".

If this thing were ever actually built it would require an insane amount of data to actually work.

"Then the camera says "Well, that didn't come out so good, would you like to review and purchase some amazing shots from a selection of artists on FAA?"....

LOL, Edward! That works for me :-).

JC Findley

Conceptually, the app would be great.

Gregory Scott

Such an app would do wonders for sales of my iconic views in national parks for example. Huge market. I wonder if this can already be done via google glass?!

Gregory Scott

Another thought on how ill advised the camera is: bracketing is forbidden? Really? Shooting sequences for HDR? Shooting sequences for panoramic stiching? Shooting sequences over time to develop video? If this thing refused to fire just once in any of these situations, I would be tempted to hurl it to the middle of the nearest body of water, and if no such body were in range, I would just urinate on it.

Edward Fielding

Maybe include a GPS so the camera could lead you to under shot places "Cold.... Warmer....Warmer.... Cool.... Warm....Warm....Very Warm... HOT....OK TAKE A SHOT"

Mike Savad

what might be useful is an overlay of things you want to get yourself because some else did... or better yet to show you were it was, by both jps and other landmarks. so if you want to match an old photo of a spot, or something that was destroyed you can do that.

it would be a shame to lose a perfect shot of a building with something happening all because the neighbor uploaded a picture of their kid and the building just happened to be in the background.

What is the best deal she can get on a pocket digital camera?

I haven't read all the comment, but the first thing that crossed my mind was GPS, data collection...with a unsuspecting toy camera... Ok, so maybe I'm jaded...I don't like being traced by GPS, I even turn off that function on my cell. hmmmm

New website coming to a picture near you?

Cheers, Barbara

Your request to photograph Squirrel on Branch DENIED! What you want to photograph Mt. Rushmore? Too late sucker! What you want to photograph your kids, sorry-someone else has taken that shot-but the soft porn you shot with your hubby earlier has been shared as it was original-cuz no one wants to see that.....

Wow. Proof that we create technology before we have any idea how to use it wisely and with any insight what so ever. (just my opinion)
