Artwork By Kathy Braud

I am a watercolor - watermedia painter from Central Minnesota. I like to paint subjects within my state, depending on where I might visit and take photos for future art projects. So you will see wildlife, bears, great blue herons and poultry reflected in my subjects.
But I also love flowers and color and enjoy displaying them in the garden or interior decorator vases. Floral Macros and creative scenes make my day!

This #1 painting just won the Northstar Watercolor Society Best Watermedia Award at our local Minnesota State Fair 2015 in the Juried fine Arts Exhibition. Four Clucks - a colorful grouping of chickens gathered at eye level around a big watering dish with great values everywhere. Very attractive!

Here is an example of a fine art watercolor where Kathy Braud has added a creative twist to the background. This stand of tulips, rooted in the soil, was also developed with a quilted background, light against dark in patches, to emphasize interesting places to enjoy visually.

I can see why the Four Clucks won the award, it is a stunning painting Kathy. Also the September Storm painting has great movement and bravura. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing your works.

My images are filled with color, design and value.
I hope that any print purchased will add beauty to your home, family, or loved ones and may my images fill your soul with joy.

I added my promotional sale info - good for this weekend! It wasn't as hard to complete as I dreaded.

Thanks girls for commenting on my artworks above! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in them that they seem to have a life of their own.....
I think the reference material really has to grab you and make you want to work with it on composition, color, value and activity.
If not, it is easy to just reproduce the reference. Ho Hum.
But that is not the point! To make it our own, we need to push, shove and go out on a limb.
Getting the Four Clucks dark enough to be the values I wanted took a time period of being fearless! and pools of dark mixture pigment washes to zazzel my brush in.
Thanks a bunch! Kathy

I love making a path of light in my paintings. It is especially fun to do with landscapes.
Exciting reflections dance across the water, moving lovely colors here and there in reflections, and create large expanses of deep dark colors on this luscious paper. Here, some canoeists are enjoying a Minnesota day at its very best.

This painting was featured in May 2015.
Thanks for the support! and welcoming words.
