Thank you very much, Tayla and Painted Ladies for featuring this painting. The waratah flower is native to Australia - the red waratah the floral state emblem of New South Wales (NSW). I've been painting waratahs for about three decades, initially in watercolours with a touch of pastels and then oils or occasionally acrylics. It is such a beloved flower in Australia that most of my paintings have sold. That's one thing that keeps me painting more, as does my love of this unique flower, even though it's a challenging subject requiring concentration and about three layers of paint! There are other native Aussie flowers in the featured painting, plus orchids that I thought looked good with the waratahs.
