DL,

I am using blend modes in PS. Some of the modes are very faulty like in the linked video. They have stunning very flawed effects.
Some of the blend modes are very useful if not a lot more subtle. I think the extreme blend modes will be seen as outdated later on.

The problem with the crazier blend modes is you lose detail.

Yes they effect each and every pixel, but the algorithms do not give a clarity to each pixel.
It is not a clear or clean look. The images made with the current crazy modes will be
outdated later on.

David,

I'm assuming you have a firmly planted tongue in your cheek? This certainly isn't the "Future" of art, just a passing "treatment", like HDR.

LOL rich there are three Davids in this thread.....looks around....

The more complex blends are mistakes in art. The algorithms are not good enough.

Who knows the future? Who can predict the art world ?

Well I did put a question mark so I was asking what you thought . I did not express an opinion either way . I think digital tools are a great advancement for art but only time will tell which ones will last.

Xueling and DL,

DL, you gave us a video. We all know special effects in movies from the 1950s look terrible today.

I see that happening a generation from now looking at the video. Yes the video was not made
in PS, but the effects are very similar. The problem is having the effect, but giving up far too much
detail.

Not all blends lose that much detail.

The Future Of Art?

.............his 1955 painting “Women of Algiers (Version O)” was sold at US$179.4
The art work has focused more on scantily dressed women..........

............painting has surpassed the price of “Three Studies of Lucian Freud,” done by Francis Bacon two years ago after selling at US$142.2 million.

.................... It also surpassed “Scream”, a painting done by Edvard Munch which sold at US$120 million.
or....."Looking Forward to the Past,"
Who following ?
Art Prints
Ok :) Like your style and vision!

David B - I may be wrong, but I think you're confusing blend modes with filters, in Photoshop terminology anyway.

Edward Fielding

I think he is confusing a tool with art.

Ed wins the thread. lol

Jane,

Not at all. I use the blend modes extensively. Some of them are way overkill. Detail is lost.
I see it clearly in how the video outcomes are.

Ed, the only tool being confused with art is the camera.

Tongue roundly in cheek.

DK stop using brushes. Go back to your fingers.

My brushes aren't art, neither are my palette knives....or fingers, (and my fingers do get used to push paint around on occasion.)

I never said PS is art. Now did I?
