When You Tweet, What Word Do You Include? What Do U Tweet

I read few posts recently about tweeting,,never did much other than when posting a new image and see that others do it well here. And use tweetdeck also.

So, to make this easy for myself I am trying to come up with a plan, and templates I could store in Word that I could cut and paste.

I am thinking that it should include the following words and hashtags: #art, #decor, #designer,#picture, #photograph,#wall art, #canvas,

And obviously a link to an image I want to promote..Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Do we have to tweet with key words?

Jon,

Recent Tweet:

"FOX Breaking News! Massive Typhoon hits Southern Hemisphere, Tens of Thousands of Penguins, STILL without power! More at 11:00"

Hasn't helped my sales, yet...............LOL!

Don't leave a space between words or it will only include the word with the hashtag in front of it.

Put a thumbnail of your image. Helps generate more interest. Some say not to - but I have put 1)just links , and 2) links with thumbnail - the thumbnail one always gets more hits.

Thanks for posting this as I have begun Twitter seriously and I am also at a loss! I also use the above hastags, but with only 140 characters including the title, there isn't much left!

Sometimes I will hastag: #office art, #conversation art, and or a catch phrase: check it out! promo! share, etc. One time I put my Bull image on there and added...NO BULL! Come and see!

I also have other questions about Twitter....

1.) How do you program auto thank you's?
2.) Does Roundteam automatically retweet your followers when they tweet?
3.) Many people have a tweet that says...."Tweets contributed for (bertsworks300) by Roundteam"...what does that mean?
4.) What other available shortcuts are there for non techy's like me....who really doesn't have a clue?

Again, thanks Jon!

@ Xueling Zou
Why the protected tweets ?

Frank J Casella

I use either or both #Art or #Photographer always.

I also prefer to share pages of images as I find single images don't see much engagement ( faves, RT's, and views ).

Oooops .... trigger finger ... you'll have to copy and past link now: https://twitter.com/FrankJPhoto

Xueling Zou -- looks from your follower count you're doing well with a protected account ... I've been thinking about going back to that. Share your experiences please?

How do you add a thumbnail of a picture?

Some more ideas for words,,#office,#canvasprints,#digitalart,#artprints,#gift,#wallart

James McCormack

@Roberta - I use tweetdeck which helps me to program tweets for the week, you can add your own columns and its good for keeping track of follows, direct messages etc. I did try an auto responder/retweet for a while but found it was retweeting indescriminately some stuff that has nothing to do with me (Me being and Irish anti-monarchist and there were "royal" baby retweets - nothing agains the poor baby but it had nothing to do with what I want to RT.) Every tweet certainly drives more traffic. I dont just mean FAA.

Xueling Zou

My tweeter account was hacked when I just started, so I had to add the protected filter...

Xueling Zou

@Joy, if don't leave a space between keywords, it will give red under lines...

Joy McKenzie

Right, Xueling, because something like officeart isn't an actual word, so you'll get the red underline for misspelling. But Twitter doesn't hashtag phrases with spaces, just the word with the hashtag in front of it. If you want to tweet office art you have to put a hashtag in front of #office and #art, but you'll attract people interested in just the word 'office' that way.

How big of a thumbnail do you guys use? When I save to jpeg from Photoshop, I usually make a smaller picture and save it as an interlaced low res pgn, and it's usually something like 8X10. Is that way too big? My originals are more like 50X45....

And I do use pictures as much as I can as when I'm on Twitter, I fin my eye roaming from picture to picture and skipping what's in between.

Frank J Casella

Xueling - Since with protected filter your followers can't RT your tweets. Do your followers then share your work, and if so how?

In other words, how do you build an audience with out your followers ( RT ) sharing your tweets? Do hashtags and Favs work though?

Xueling Zou

@Joy, thank you for the explanation, I will tweet with the new idea :D!

Xueling Zou

@Frank, honestly I have no idea, I only tweet once for a while - whenever I remember to do it. I don't know much how to tweet or get the right followers. I follow back whoever follows me...

Okay ... good to know. Thank you. Does your stats show lots of views, as you have several favs. ??

Also don't over do it with hashtags. I include the location for me it would be #NashvilleTN and I sometimes use #MusicCity. If it is a photo of an animal and if I have the room I include the type of animal either as part of the tweet or as a hashtag example #Primate #WhiteCheekedGibbon #Animal.

Thanks James....I thought our focus and goal was numbers (sigh) and so I retweet everyone who retweets my images, but I spend hours doing so. My numbers have increased greatly and I am striving towards 3 digits in all boxes of 100 images on FAA (someone told me that was important). Most of the people I follow are FAA or Pixel folks and some that I have checked out and like their work, so I would be confident of someone retweeting for me; just don't understand how Round Team.

Of course, I could be wrong....still learning and rely on group discussions and people at FAA to give me direction. Thanks for the response!

you put in words people might be looking for. chances are they won't be looking for most of the words you put in. they look spammy.

#carART #kitchenART - is ok. #yourNAme is ok #MainSubject #peopleTHATmightBEinterested those people. decor and the like i can't imagine anyone looking for. when you look for your interest, what do you look for? do you look for decor or art? you look for the main subject. that's all your doing here.

don't thank everyone for the follow - its really annoying. and when they abuse it to spam their other pages, its even more so. i don't know what a roundteam is. but i try to ignore those places.

i don't believe in entering pictures. people look at them, they don't click them.

i looked at tweetdeck, and was not impressed, because it looks like i have to enter things every day. it doesn't have a repeat function. it would waste a lot of time.

retweeting other people's stuff makes your page loose focus on what your selling. so if some does go to your page, all your doing is steering them to someone else, and that's no good. some pages have so many retweets that i can't tell what work is theirs. and if your spending hours on it? stop it. push only your work in that time.

don't follow artists if you can. you can only follow 2000 people before your ratio kicks in. its a 10% of your total. if people don't follow back. or they have no plans on buying your stuff, they are just dead weight. you have to keep pruning the dead beats off so you get more people. you have to friend those people yourself. some will follow back others won't those that don't you cull out.

@Roberta
In the end it is numbers, I'm up to 2900 followers and it is growing.. I do regular searches, check out trends, friends, and try to follow anyone interesting, many follow back. Although other artists may not buy - it does lead to interesting interactions and even joint projects or indications of stuff to look at. I cannot retweet everyone but I do dedicate some set time every week to answer direct tweets, retweet, and tweet my own stuff or schedule it.

Mike's experience differed from mine - a tweet with an image immediately brings in more hits on FAA or FB for me. Just the test/link - little noticeable difference.

So far no-one has mentioned Twitter Analytics ( you can get to it from your main page menu)
analytics.twitter.com/user/ YourUser

Very useful info on the performance of your tweet and your followers.

I just got a surprise. This thread had me looking at my Twitter account for the first time since Aug 2.

My follower count is up about 200 plus people in that time with no effort.

I added two tweets tonight. Just now. I put in #art as suggested here. It is a good suggestion.

I really like that my count is up. It means that people dropping me are well outnumbered by people who with no prompting
like I did in the past are now following me.

I believe in self propelling SM when the numbers get high enough. I also believe that SM sorts itself into people who are actually interested
if given a good chance over a good long time. Further your followers and your following of people will introduce you slowly to others over time.

I have followed no one back in a month now. My follower count is 19.6k (Aug 2 it was about 19.4k) and my following count is 13.9k since Aug 2.

I used an app for about 9 months.

Addition: I have gone to no work on Pinterest and have added 50 followers with no effort in the last four weeks. I do not follow back. They can find
my work interesting or not.

So,,I have set up a document that I just have to copy and paste from to the twitter account. The only issue is there are no thumbnail images that come up automatically for me,,So i will have to find those individual images and ad them to tweet.

Any other suggestions to make tweeting quicker. I do it from here but the tweet does not include better words like #home, #decor, #prints, #canvasprint

David Bridburg

When you hit the Tweet button up top, you will find a box comes up. In the bottom left hand corner of that box you can add photos. This will take
you to your computer to search for an image. Make sure you have a folder of resized images well under 300 kB. Select the image, you can
select more than one image per tweet. Add the comments above the images.

I have blocked many who followed me that I did not want to follow me like Ford and other advertisers and follows that were questionable.

I agree to use an image, just a link will be ignored. I do follow artists and they follow back, they tweet mine and vice versa. It is called a social network for a reason. To never favorite or retweet is rude and comes off as arrogant. I believe everyone is a potential buyer and it is all about exposure to the masses. To not include a certain group could be hurting your business...

David Bridburg

Bonfire everyone is more than entitled to use their profiles as they wish. It is not rude or arrogant. It is their individual business.
I like your work, but I am not selling it. And I would never get into how you should sell my work.

Peace,

Dave

Mike Savad

i'm proof that links are not ignored. while a picture here and there will attract attention, many of my things are seen. i know so because i got a sale right after someone fav'd it. artists will always follow back, but do they buy anything? every person you have is another person added to the ratio. not retweeting etc, is not rude or arrogant. its a social media if that's how you use it. if you use it to advertise yourself and become name aware, that's another use. retweet too often and that's all you'll have advertising for you. i follow back when someone follows me, but i don't seek artists out. its not about ignoring a group, its about who is the highest chance of a sale - an artist also pushing their wares, or a common citizen?

Another way of seeing it is I have gone to great great lengths to have 19k followers over months of work.

Why would I RT to a good sized fragment of my 19k viewers someone else's work?
So that they RT my work to a part of 1k of their viewers?

That is not working together. That would just be me working.

This is capitalism. Those who work do well. Even if in my case it is eventually.

I encourage all of you to work at least as hard as I do. You have my blessings.

Mike has been working that hard if not harder for even longer. I would never ask Mike to market my art. And
I would not expect it of him at all.

Jon, responding to your original question, you can hashtag the subject - for example, I produced an image of a motorway in the UK and used the name of the motorway in my hashtags #M25, that was picked up and retweeted on a news report about the M25 that went out to thousands of people. A recent image of bunches of grapes on a vine I used #wine #winemaking amongst others and that was retweeted by two different wine making outfits and a cheese society! Think about how people describe themselves too so you have #artcollector but you also have #doglover #catlover etc so you can use them rather than #dog and #cat. Some of my images include someone performing #taichi and this hashtag gets picked up and put in newsletters. Another image was of the South Downs Way and #southdownsway meant my image ended up in a South Downs Way newsletter.

Each photo should have it's own Hashtags so I wouldn't recommend creating a template. When you post a photo, think of someone that might be searching for that type of photo. What would they put in the search bar? Try your own search. I've found that entering location is a good thing. If someone is traveling or has traveled to that place but didn't get a photo they wanted, they may search for one to buy. It took me a while to learn twitter, but I think I'm finally starting to understand it lol. I haven't seen any sales from Twitter, but it is helping my photos to get noticed. Anything helps to get your name out there.

One final thought - take time to look at the popular hashtags that are currently doing the rounds. For example, a current popular hashtag is #killthetrade which is a campaign against poaching. So if you have a picture of an elephant (and it is relevant!) rather than #elephant you could use #killthetrade which will attract more attention.

Ok Ok,,so i template is not really a good idea? bummer..Im trying to streamline this so that I can schedule tweets on tweetdeck but take little if any time to do it..Cause I still have pinterest and editing images to do..

A cut paste was perfect,,not anymore though..is there a way to edit a tweet put out by FAA..to ad words to it before tweeting

I never retweet other things,,i new it was rude, but why would I advertize someone elses art

Roberta Byram

David, I was on my phone and remember I am the non techy lady!

Yes, I am in many groups and work as many as possible! I spend about 4-6 hours a day on all of this and it is exhausting! I am trying to learn it all and I am a lifelong learner....but I do get weary!

I post on Google+ and Pinterest, but do not know how they work! I do work FB & Twitter.
I just got a new lens and I am discovering that and I love to blog!

I really just got into painting (but as my last blog says: My Affair) and it has become an affair with me! I love it!

So, I take in all everyone says and try my best and perhaps, out of my hard headedness....I will reach my very high goals that I set for myself!

Thanks to all of you!
Roberta

So, I came up with another Tweet idea,,I am cutting and pasting links from my galleries. Then saving them to a Word document for future reference that way I can vary the content, but make it quick too. I think typing out individual tweets every time takes too long.

#art and #artprints as a #gift for your #home Custom #design for #office http://imagesbyjonevan.artistwebsites.com/art/all/all/all/sunrise+and+sunset

I am also including four pictures. I think cut and pasting is the quickest way to schedule multiple tweets during the day.

A lot of people won't read tweets like that, putting hashtags in the middle of the sentence makes the tweet difficult to read. Whenever I see a tweet like that I move on, I don't even bother trying to read it.

Jon Glaser

What would you suggest?

James McCormack

@Jon
"why would I advertize someone elses art "

There is a certain amount of give and take - it is social media.

I have a FB artist page - I put my own stuff and occasionally share some else's that I particularly like. That often leads to my work being shared.

Same on Twitter - a few RT will bring some RT for you.
I got a lot of fans in Turkey - because I retweeted some messages translated from Turkish to English - the folks started following and tweeting me soon after.

David King

"What would you suggest?"

Short sentence, link, then hashtags, That seems to be how most tweets are structured. Hashtags aren't part of the content, they are just tags to help people find your tweet.
