Abastract Paintings

Hi everyone! So its two people that want me to paint for them. Two abstract paintings. One with a lot of different blue, and one with a lot of different colors. I've bought 61×50cm canvas, and I paint with acrylic painting. The problem is that I have never done abstract before. Do you guys got any tips? Or some videoes where I can watch and learn? Thank you 😊

My suggestion would be to not think you can whip out an abstract painting as a commission. Spend an appropriate amount of time to see if you can master the genre

Rethink accepting this proposal.

Abstracts are not just about whipping colour onto a canvas and calling them an abstract.... Well they are, but not good ones. It takes a good knowledge or eye.

However, you may be superb.

Good luck

kind of curious why they asked you to make something that you never made before. its like saying - can you make me a wedding cake or two... because your cookies are good.

and without them specifying what kind of abstract... well in any case, be sure to get a non refundable deposit first. and tell them you don't normally make abstract.

a quick fyi, the images you have up right now, will need be larger, and cropped clean without the watermark, or they won't print them.

I would do a lot of practice work first and show them anything that you think they will like. it is a misconception that abstract is "easy". You do have to have a good eye for color and balance. A lot of amateur abstract painters overwork their pieces and you get "muddy" colors (browns, strange mauves, greenish grays...yuck). Or they use colors that are not complimentary together.

There are some great painting demos on Youtube. Just search Abstract Painting Demo. That said, I must point out that it takes as long to master abstract techniques and painting as it does any other genre.

I painted for about 20 years and then stopped painting for about 20 years. I started painting again in 2008 and had forgotten so much that it took me four years of painting before I felt my work was good enough to just show anyone. As Marlene has said you need to spend time working with the genre.

Thank you all :-) I tried painting some today, but it does not look good. I think I would have to tell them to let me paint something else.. Abstract is really hard! :P Im not going to get paid for the paintings either. Im not a pro, its just a hobby. So I don't think getting paid is right anyway.

Welcome to FAA! The 2 images you have for sale will not sell because they are not photographed or scanned correctly.

Hi! I was not planning on selling anything, haha. I will remove the pictures then :)

you can keep the pictures, just remove the prices.
