Art Experiment

Sometimes when I'm cruising images on FAA, I come across images that are drawn very well but are bland, washed out, or just need something extra to set it apart from the tens of thousands of similar images on FAA. Sometimes I screen cap those works and bring them into my software to either add color, take away color, brightness, hue, filters, textures and effects of all varieties and the results have been what I feel to be a drastic improvement.

So let's try an experiment,. Post an image here from your gallery that you'd like to see improved upon and if you like the results, you can make a contribution of any amount you want to my paypal account, or pay nothing if you can't afford it. There is no obligation. I just like to draw, A LOT, so if you want to see what I can do for one of your images, post it here and we'll see how it goes.

I'm limiting my offer to the first 5 people, one image per person.

One of the good things here is that after buyer purchasing FAA will inform the artist if the image quality isn't good enough for print .

I'm talking about images that are ok for print but still need something to liven them up. There's no obligation for payment, therefore, there's nothing to lose. Why not just try it for fun, if nothing else it may give you ideas for your future works.

Maybe you will get some takers...But I think many creatives would feel funny about someone else working on their art. I would. My art is personal to me...Kind of like a companion to my soul. It would be like me giving you my husband for a few hours to let you have your way with him.....LOL

That's why I'm calling it an experiment and no thanks on the husband share thingy. lol ew...

You mean the green hi-res box? I don't need it for what I'm doing. I just screen cap the image and can get to work ..... Thanks for sharing your image, I'm working on it.

Just not sure why it hasn't sold! I mean EVERYBODY loves cats, right?

Your friend,

No John, I meant the check box on the reply screen so I recieve emails when there is activity on this board. I am new at editing photography..so my images ares pretty much right out of the camera. I shoot in Raw and do minimal noise reduction is all....appreciate your guidance...thank you....

I am a quick learner John - -just recently really taking photography seriously..not just another of many hobbies....but the quickest thing I learned is that it is really tough to get a good photo at sunrise....in fact..up until aout 10 minutes befor I shoot..my camera doesnt even have enough light to shoot....do nnot mess or change any settings, I use all automatic...I use an Olympus EPL-1 and I think that pic was with my 14-42 lens...but it could have been on my 40-150mm

The only thing I'm finding possible with this image is to turn it from a cool image to one with much warmer tones, and also I'm popping the contrast and that is really distinguishing the features in the sand and waves nicely. Won't be long now..

Robert, that EPL-1 is a fine camera. I have one and I have a couple of images uploaded here with it. I also have both of those lenses and it appears (to me) that your sunrise image was done with the 14-42. Both of those lenses are sold as "kit" lenses and usually that means "OK, but not great." However both of these Olympus lenses get good reviews and the 40-150 is actually a highly rated lens. So, you got equipment that can create fine images, worthy of being sold.

There may be a "sunrise" setting in some presets for your camera and that may be a setting to try. I don't have that camera with me right now or I would look.

Make sure to use a tripod and a low ISO for maximum sharpness (which it looks like you did on your sample image. Best of luck with sunrises. I love them, especially in the winter when the air is crisp and clear.

Ok Robert, here is what I came up with. Your original is on the far right. Remember, this is a screen cap image, therefore it's distorted with FAA's filter and won't be clear as your raw image. If you like either version, just send me your raw file and I'll apply the same effects to your original and then email it back to you. I'll send you a private email with my email address in case your interested.

Thanks Bill...I am loner artist - meaning...lol..I do most everything alone...dont bounce too much off of anyone as I have no one really to bounce off...I am also quite a compulsive obsessive and perfectionist...which means I really have not gotten any photos to the point where I am super happy....I am truly learning on the fly...my therapist doesnt think I have too much to worry about..she says keep doing what your doing and that its better than most that are sitting on the couch and rotting away....I put hours and hours in every day since I put down the golf clubs..and I am having a ball...only sold one item but that was enough to hook me for life..thanks again for the confidence boost

thanks John.....I wish I could do what you just did...but give it a little time and I will get there...I use Corel prox-7...tested photoshop and paintshop for one month and found Corel a lot easier to understand and use and it was a lot cheaper..I am a very quick learner at most things....let me chew on those images...to be honest, I like mine better..maybe its becasue mine is exactly how I saw it when I was their at 515am shooting and snapping away.....thank you again..ill be back to you with more thoughts

No problem Robert. I use DrawplusX6 and the revisions to your original were done in the photo lab portion of their image editor. To be honest your image isn't what I typically would have considered to be one that needed much post processing. I think the middle image pops the detail nicely while still retaining the overall feel of the original, but that's more of a personal preference. I can't stress enough how the FAA filter hit this image twice, once for the screen cap and then once for my uploaded version.. nothing I can do about that.

help me out John...I am not sure what you mean by "I can't stress enough how the FAA filter hit this image twice, once for the screen cap and then once for my uploaded version.. nothing I can do about that."

All I mean is that FAA reduces pixels to display the overall image so that people have a hard time stealing the images and then using them to make larger prints. So when you view my uploaded version you have to take into consideration the fact that for me to screen cap it, it has the pixels reduced, and then when I upload it after processing, it reduces the pixels a second time, drastically reducing the quality.

I gotchas - Ill send you the RAW file through regular mail..I am currious what it would look like
