I don't know where The Digital disappeared to, maybe he is just making more art, he has been on a role lately, or maybe the unthinkable has occurred again, this is all in character of the ever elusive and anonymous The Digital. Much like he is described in the recent book I have published with him about his art. He wanted a critique, I just wasn't able to get it in time for him, his thread was "CLOSED". This is for you The Digital, a thread just about you, your art, and your new book.

The critique you have been asking me for......................................
The Digital
The Digital (Germany) makes digital paintings, drawings and conceptual artworks. By parodying mass media by exaggerating certain formal aspects inherent to our contemporary society, his paintings references post-colonial theory as well as the avant-garde or the post-modern and the left-wing democratic movement as a form of resistance against the logic of the capitalist market system.
His paintings directly respond to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context. By putting the viewer on the wrong track, he tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
His practice provides a useful set of allegorical tools for manoeuvring with a pseudo-minimalist approach in the world of painting: these meticulously planned works resound and resonate with images culled from the fantastical realm of imagination. With a conceptual approach, he makes works that can be seen as self-portraits. Sometimes they appear idiosyncratic and quirky, at other times, they seem typical by-products of American superabundance and marketing.
His works demonstrate how life extends beyond its own subjective limits and often tells a story about the effects of global cultural interaction over the latter half of the twentieth century. It challenges the binaries we continually reconstruct between Self and Other, between our own ‘cannibal’ and ‘civilized’ selves. By demonstrating the omnipresent lingering of a ‘corporate world’, he tries to create works in which the actual event still has to take place or just has ended: moments evocative of atmosphere and suspense that are not part of a narrative thread. The drama unfolds elsewhere while the build-up of tension is frozen to become the memory of an event that will never take place.
His works are given improper functions: significations are inversed and form and content merge. Shapes are dissociated from their original meaning, by which the system in which they normally function is exposed. Initially unambiguous meanings are shattered and disseminate endlessly. With a subtle minimalistic approach, he creates work in which a fascination with the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards conceptual and minimal art can be found. The work is aloof and systematic and a cool and neutral imagery is used.
His works are saturated with obviousness, mental inertia, clichés and bad jokes. They question the coerciveness that is derived from the more profound meaning and the superficial aesthetic appearance of an image. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, he tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, likes to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work.
His works never shows the complete structure. This results in the fact that the artist can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality.

Mario,
What a lovely critique! You are a good friend to The Digital.
Sadly, it reads like one of those that you can generate online by answering a few questions.....

Mario,
Please don't make a sham of this forum.
The digital posted a comment 2 hours ago.
He is hardly MIA.

Shams are never my intentions Marlene, members concerned have emailed me asking me his where-a-about's. I imagine the concern arose from seeing all his threads are closed. I don't know if he is missing or not, that's why I say in the OP subject line Possibly MIA. I'm just hoping he shows up again soon. The good thing is I managed to get his book completed before his "disappearance" or I would have been out $30.00. Lol , I might have to add some pages to bring the book current about his again abrupt disappearance, that has yet to be determined.

Like I said, he posted a comment in a thread 2 hours ago.
In every thread HE closed, he stated why.
Please spare us the drama.

I hope you are right, I don't mind being wrong in this case. I didn't see any reason posted for his closing his critique thread.

It seems odd that all his threads are closed. Anyway even if there are times when he bugs he is always good for breaking the boredom and I do enjoy his quirky views on things. FYI most of us bug someone sometimes!

also to add, do you want to be buried in the ground, at sea, flung from something? cremated? creamed? donated to science? or some kind of creative way that might bug the most people... like human pinata? or perhaps something more gruesome?
