Stepping Out Of Your Realm

Did you ever create something that was so far removed from your usual work that it stood out like a sore thumb? Bazaar? Scary? Ridiculous? Morbid? Funny?

If you did, show us and tell us what possessed you to do it. Something that you would never think about offering as part of your repertoire. Please show only images that are not for sale.

Here's one that I did a while ago. Walking through the woods with the damp smell of the earth, the sound of the wind rustling the leaves, seeing the texture of the tree bark, I started thinking about old stories of the Green Man and ancient woodland spirits. Why did I do it? Mainly just to see if I could!

Jane-

Captured it beautifully....but do you have a piece that is not for sale?

I think you have to perish from the Earth to have a crypt.

Not to be a party pooper, but Abbie has put a moratorium on image threads for the time being.

Cynthia-

I believe (correct me if I am wrong which I am most of the time)) that the purpose of limiting theads is to reduce the "constant display of work for the purpose of selling" in the discussion pages.

This discussion is about the"devil or angel" made me do it and it's not for sale. If I am wrong again, then it should be closed

David-

I don't always follow the rules

I think it is a good topic...I have no images that are not for sale but for me the excitement of being an artist is to continually step outside of my comfort zone. I did that when I first came here by creating digital art. My first mediums were traditional. For me it is exciting to create something new...be it a new medium or a new style...it is the process that thrills me more than the result. I still love my new medium but continually experiment with other things...I have had some major successes and major fails but they have all been equally exciting during the process.

THis is one of the first digital abstracts I ever created - it was way out of what I was used to doing:

I think I misread the original question. I have lots of experiments where I tried out new ideas and techniques that stretched the boundaries of my comfort zone. However, unless I'm happy with the results, I don't put them on display and I reckon anything I do consider good enough to display might as well have a price attached.

Far from being a Beachcomber:

I decided to create this persona because in my own mind, I Am God.

(Note: The halo was quite a chore to keep in place. And heavy too.))

Actually I'm quite happy this is a discussion, over an image dump. I see where it may turn into one however, like with Lutz's post which has no discussion, but this is a good topic that should garner chat over imagery hopefully.

I'm happy to let it go on for now.

Roger,

Awesome. And all this time I thought I was God.

I like, but in my opinion...no need to have artistic ability to make money.

This Newman sold for 44 million.

$80,000 for a degree in art and this is the result.

Was it really worth it?

To answer the first question, yes.
As an abstract expressionist, I am turning myself inside out on a canvas when I paint. I have no clue what will be the visual product when the process is complete.
If it isn't for sale ( assuming it hasn't sold), it has already become under painting for the next day's experience.
