Filming for the Downton Abbey TV series takes place at Highclere Castle close to where I live in Hampshire, UK. I had a lovely visit there earlier this week, hence the images of the castle and a directional sign to the secret garden.
The third image, of an actor portraying Jesus was taken during an all day outdoor performance based on the life of Christ, and will form the basis of a painting I am due to start later this week in preparation for an exhibition in a few weeks' time.

Yesterday I uploaded three "non-traditional" zoo photographs. These were recently captured at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.
A ride-on pedal toy tractor likely 50+ years old.
A sign - that I am now using for the logo for one of my galleries...
And "Woody Woodpecker" - sort of...

PHOTO #1: These boats docked at Sentosa Island, Singapore reminded me of a reflection on the water of the yellow sun and blue sky above.
PHOTO #2: Uluru (Ayers Rock), a massive sandstone monolith in the heart of Australia's Northern Territory, is one of the most widely-recognized natural phenomena of the continent. In this photo you're invited to make a toast to the Tjukuritja, the spirits of ancestral creator beings who, according to legend, still inhabit the area.
PHOTO #3: Australia's largest state, Western Australia, is home to more than 12,000 species of wildflowers that occur nowhere else on earth. This photograph of red banksia flowers was taken in September 1998 in Kings Park and Botanic Gardens, a 1,003-acre park overlooking the central business district of the state capital, Perth. It also happens to be where I was married in 2005.
PHOTO #4: Separated by 9,932 miles from one another, the form of the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple in Bali, Indonesia can be seen reflected in this lighthouse in Bar Harbor, Maine.

I've just started working on a new (to me) OOF, Out Of Frame, technique. Here is a pair of images that I captured at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore two weeks ago.
This "Black Crowned Night Heron" did not like me getting near his nest. I just completed and uploaded the OOF (or OOB) photograph last evening.

I am currently working on a high key image series of the downtown Lubec, Maine fishing fleet which requires being on location at the exact right time to capture the optimal effect.
Above are the two recent images from he ongoing series.
While I was out working on this technique,...a nearby passing motor boat disrupted the glassy water's surface where I was photographing.
The ripple pattern which radiated from that disturbance, (similar to throwing a pebble into a calm pond)
resulted in the abstract capture below.

I was drawn to the minimalism and simple graphic qualities in this image of the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown, MA. With all of the technology at our disposal, and popular trends such as HDR (high dynamic range) it has sometimes becomes an automatic response to present as much detail as possible - because we can. Although many photographers, myself included, often struggle and strive to have shadow details, it works much better for me this way. Less is more. Simple is better.

In August it is all about the travel and this image is from my travels to Iceland. This is the most beautiful country with unique and eerie landscape. In the image is the Thingvellir National park. The area is situated on the tetonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge which is where the American and EuroAsian plates meet.
The historic significance of the area is also immense, it is the place where the Icelandic Parliament used to meet once a year to discuss and decide in the name of the nation. The practice held until 1798.
And then there is the church and the majestic sky. I had to title the image Where the Worlds Meet. :)

Bicycles, bicycles, bicycles, they are everywhere in Holland, not just in Amsterdam! Dutch have taken riding a bicycle to the new level, everyone is on it, young and old. Since the country of Netherlands is so very colorful, the bicycle scene is full of color too with bright benches and windows in the background.
Since both of my parked bicycles in the picture have slanted crossbars, I have titled them Hers and Hers.
The image was taken on Canon EOS 550 and the editing was mostly cropping and adjusting the vibrance and saturation.

I enjoyed working on these three images so much, they brought back my relaxed holiday in Malta. Again, it was mostly cropping and adjusting of the light and vibrance for all three.
The scenes are of the beautiful balconies of Valletta, the capital of Malta. Valletta posseses a rare beauty of the crumbly charm. Everything is old and flaky yet very pretty and there is no sadness to it because people live their lives in all these architectural beauties without a second thought about them. The past and present coexists in Malta and if you can, go and visit.

Everytime I go to the grocery store, my eyes are enamoured with the produce section. Stacks of fresh fruits and vegetables are colorful and full of unique shapes. Sometimes I buy fresh items just because they are beautiful, even if I have no idea how to prepare them. When I get them home, the first thing I do is create a still life painting, sometimes an entire series of paintings. When the fresh items have done their duty, they head to the kitchen. Below are a couple of paintings created after a trip to the market. The colorful bell peppers usually end up lounging in a salad, I know what to do with them. However, this time, I also brought home Anaheim peppers. I didn't know if they were hot or mild, all I knew was I loved their color, that mellow green, and their long, robust shape. After I painted them, I did some research and they ended up as Chile Rellenos. So good.

This is a picture I created a long time ago. I worked in that reflected building, 320 S. Boston. It's the only building in Tulsa, Oklahoma that can claim to have had a dirigible tethered to it. It's reflected in the First National Bank building across the street. I found the picture on an old external drive. Bam!
I took this picture in Provincetown, on Cape Cod, five years ago when my son was first starting university at Wesleyan in Connecticut. That' was a great vacation, even if I did have to leave my son behind a long way from home. This picture, I think, speaks tons about people who live by the sea, battered by its storms. I thought about going b&w, but decided to leave a little color...

Wildfires in the west are generating enormous amounts of smoke. Where I live, dense smoke has been present for days, making it difficult to be outside. However, over the weekend, I saw that the moon was a deep orange from the smoke, so went out and photographed it. Here is a resulting image.

The history of this castle started in 80'. An artist from Northern Poland just wanted to build something like this. It was never finished, I think he faced many law problems and got run out of money. So it stays like this for over 30 years. Just imagine how it would look like when finished....
