The Sky.

I was sitting out back this morning, and admiring the sky as I often do. It is always fascinating to see the many different colors. I would like to see your skies. All different colors of the rainbow & more. Blue skies, cloudy skies, sunsets, night skies, etc. - Paintings & Photos.

I painted this scene from a photo taken in Northern Ireland.

Gene, I love the colors of the sky at sunset, especially over the Gulf Of Mexico.

This is an image I took on my commute home from work one evening. I had worked late and was a bit irate, then got to pull over and take a cool photograph.

Hi, Gene,

That's a beautiful red sunset! For some reason, I would never have thought of Ireland, looking at that vivid scene. :-)

I always enjoy looking to the sky -- day or night. I'm especially intrigued by a 'daytime moon' accompanied by clouds . . . big, fluffy clouds.

Equally intriguing are those huge clouds that look heavy enough to tumble out of the sky!

As long as there's a sky above, I'll never run out of subjects to photograph! :-)

Yes, Phyllis! Gulf of Mexico skies are the best! ; ) I grew up on St Pete Beach, FL. Yet for some reason I have no images of any of its skies to post. lol

The daytime moon always fascinates me too, Wendy. My kids always wondered about it. Doesn't the moon know it's supposed to be in bed?

That's because the link I provided is Abbie's new rule on opening new image threads. They need approval first.

Not mine, but it is beautiful.

This was taken while sitting in my back yard gazing up at the sky as the sun was setting.

I saw this while driving home from work one day. I found the closest place to pull off and jumped out of the car to get this shot before the clouds closed up again.
Art Prints

I was getting ready to leave for work and saw the beautiful colors in the clouds and sky. I drove down the street to the pond so I could get this shot before the color faded.

@Valerie -- The moon is like me; it prefers staying up 'round the clock!

@Marlene -- I just assumed Gene has the proper permissions in order. To think we could all be just outside the local law . . . ;-)

I think the rules are that if you post an image you have to write something about your post as well.

Marlene Burns

ahhh,
there's the fine line, Jessica!
Do a bunch of one liners, making a statement about an image posted, constitute a discussion?
I think what Abbie is looking for are discussions where images can be added as adjuncts to the conversations......I could be wrong, heaven knows I've read and reread those rules enough. and am still not clear.
Risking derailing this image thread, I'll bow out now

I'm always fascinated by sun dogs. It's the ice crystals in the clouds that act as prisms. I saw this one as I was traveling through the eastern Sierras in winter and had to stop and take a slice.

Kathleen, those images are gorgeous! Never knew what sun dogs were. Thought it was the name of Keanu Reeves' rock band :)

I love skies in photos. They can add so much to the mood of a landscape for example. I think there can be a big difference if a photo has been taken on a cloudy day, or simply blue sky. Not much PS done here, it nearly is straight out the camera. Not sure if a blue, blue sky had been too boring in this one. Well, lol, it also depends on the daily mood of oneself!

Mario, yours does indeed look stormy!

Mario Carta

Thanks Meike! I love stormy weather, especially if I'm near the beach. I love rainy days and nights, thunderstorms and lightning. I don't often get up early in the morning but on this day I did and I captured this wonderful sky, it made getting up early worth while.

The first photograph was taken minutes before a rainstorm one late afternoon in my hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts. After the rainstorm, we were treated to a beautiful double rainbow.

I'd just finished a 12 hour shift watching over the blimp and knew that the evening's sunset would be impressive. Instead of heading back up to Atlantic City I drove out across the edges of salt marsh towards Ocean City and found a good spot to catch the light reflected in the marsh. Then back to the hotel.

1st: A gorgeous sunset over the Chesapeake Bay at the Bay City community on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

2nd: An image of silhouetted trees with a sunset backdrop against Hearns Pond in Seaford Delaware. The moon and faint stars were added for artistic enhancement.

3rd: A silhouette image of a sunset viewed from a pier at White's Cove in Pasadena, Maryland framed by a pulley and wench system rigged for hauling up a live box onto the pier. The live box is not connected to the cable in this image.

I've always loved the night sky ever since I was a kid with a telescope. I try to get out every chance I get and right now I'm trying to decide where to photograph the Blood Moon next month. Usually what I do after I've narrowed it down to 3 locations is to check the weather reports a couple of days out and head to the location that has the best forecast.
