Stolen Painting From Leonid Afernov On Faa!

Hey Ken look at the bottom of the page you linked to above. It looks to me to be Leonid Afremov's Etsy Site.

Man, that guy is everywhere!

Oh gosh, I would love it if my work was stolen but not by myself...almost as bad as being my own best customer... haha!

I put the link to his etsy site at the bottom! This is stolen!

The image on the etsy sight is different than the one in the post. I think he may have been trying to use it as a comparison that way.

Yes the link seems to be legit but the image in question is the one at the top which has been altered and is being sold by a different person here. Ken, you should send this to FAA Tech Support and close this thread. All infringement issues are handled privately and it's against the rules to "name and shame" here on the forum as we don't know if permission was granted or not.

Me, I'd guess not, but still. Send this to tech support, they'll follow up.

Ken, you should email Leonid and add the URL to this discussion. He has to deal with the infringement himself. If you report it to Abbie....she would forward it to the FAA attorney who will tell you that the owner of the artwork has to make the DMCA complaint.

Joy, it's my understanding that pursuit of the infringement is up to the artist, but that if an infringement is confirmed, FAA will remove the work from the site and possibly ban the offending account.

Off Topic: Wow, Afremov has beautiful work and the originals are REALLY inexpensive! He could easily charge 10x that amount, IMO.

I did send it to leonid afremov already, I knew right away it was his I am a big fan of his!

Cynthia...right. I was just explaining how the artist has to make the complaint to FAA. Leonid can't know about it if Ken doesn't inform him. I tried to report an infringement about 6 months ago, but the attorney told me that the original artist needed to make the report or they cannot go forward with removal, etc.

Also if you read the text on the Etsy site, these are recreations (still done by Leonid)...his original for this painting is worth over $14K. He is doing a Kincade like thing I'm surmising....there's an original, but he produces recreations of the original now.

Ken, you could also send a private message to the person selling the Dr. Who version.

Probably a giclee print on here that's 30 x 40 costs more than the Etsy recreation!

Cynthia, yes his work is sold cheap. Maybe because he sells tons of prints he doesn't care!

I wanted to wait and let the artist see it 1st cause the fake would just delete it if I told him! He even made a sale off of it that would really make me angry!

Isn't getting him to take it down the point?

I'm surprised that the two FAA groups that he's featured in didn't recognize the original artist's work.

It is in a contest I am in that's how I found it! Well I let him know im out of it now its up to leonid now I did my good deed for today.

We do not allow calling out in public here. FAA is quick to deal with found violations but it is handled behind the scenes and not in the forum for legal reasons.
