good idea to let people in common and celebrities rest in peace when they are gone.

Why is it that an art forum like this loves to put spotlight on every celibrity when they die of age?

Rip!

Is there any hurt caused by remembering someone from long ago that rose to stardom?
Led a public and private life. Some of this honors them. None of this is derogatory.

Closed the thread. I agree it is a heavy week of this.

Lutz, FAA is international. There are different cultures involved. Americans make news of celebrity deaths.
We see it perhaps as more commonplace. Sorry about offending you.

so many artist love to paint, draw and photograph celebrities. i don't see a problem with RIP notifications relating to celebrity deaths.

"Why is it that an art forum like this loves to put spotlight on every celibrity when they die of age?"

Because some artists are depressed. The misfortunes of others and bad news in general makes them feel better. Unfortunately, obsessing over bad news fills your life with bad news. There is much proof of that here.

Our lives become what we think about all day long.

Really Dan??

I have never in my life been depressed.

And thinking of chocolate cake has not turned me into one.

Lutz this has more to do with how respectful your culture is.
You are seeing a culture shock. Sorry.

Dan can defend himself just fine, but he did say "some artists," David. Not all. i actually tend to think most artists are, but that's just my opinion.

Marlene Burns

The culture over here is celerity geared, Lutz.
Personally, I don't care to be notified on faa when a celebrity dies....especially since I wasn't paying attention when they were alive. THAT would have been respectful.

Lutz Baar

You are right David, i am too easely shocked here... But Dan delivers heavy culture shocks too, like this one:

"Converting your social media friends, fans and followers into
buyers of your art can be an EXTREMELY difficult thing to do. But it’s not impossible. Artists who take the time to understand the process are reaping sweet rewards."

I will open another thread pushing my pics in front of you guys... After all you are my social media friends!

When someone major bites it, people fall all over themselves to discuss what that celeb meant to them. Those are interesting threads.

Sometimes a little-known artist dies (most of us are little-known) and one of our fellow artists writes a wonderful obituary. Now we have something to chew on, something to contemplate. Those are interesting threads.

But when someone posts a blind link to bad news or death of a little-known or long forgotten celeb with no comment... what are we supposed to do with that?

What is the problem in remembering the dead? And what's wrong with sharing and respecting their talents? If you don't care, don't read.

Oh no! Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are divorcing! LOL!

Mike, and now her daughter.

Lutz Baar

Well Jessica, I thought discussion threads where here to discuss things, not to not read them, not?

Jessica Jenney

I mean that not every subject is of interest to all people. When someone (celebrity/artist) dies, some like to share their thoughts.

Mike Savad

from my understanding her father is in there too, so it makes sense to group them up, yet he was born in newark too.. just too confusing.

My wife and I bought cemetery plots in a place we have never lived before because it was pretty cheap. Besides, I don't expect to be alive when I go there to stay.

Mike Savad

you better hope your not alive... but should we bury you alive, we will have a RIP in your name... here lies poor old joe... buried alive... sorry about that.

"When someone (celebrity/artist) dies, some like to share their thoughts."

And we'd like to hear 'em! Share. Discuss. Tell us why that person was important to you. But a blind link with no comment? If that's all they meant to you then they probably mean even less to us.

And speaking of epitaphs on grave markers, Mike, here's my fav direct from Boot Hill:-)

"Here lies Les Moore.

Killed by 3 shots from a 44.

No less. No more."

The grave markers at Boothill cemetery are a kick to read...almost too clever to be real IMO

Nooooooo Way! Not Will and Jada. Are you serious? That was America's real life Huxtables.

Chuck De La Rosa

People post them for the same reason the National Enquirer sells millions of issues, and why TMZ continues to air. Because people are fascinated by celebrities, their lives, and their deaths.

If any thread doesn't interest me, I don't bother clicking on it. Choice is a wonderful thing...

Roy Erickson

I don't remember seeing a "RIP" for Julius Cesar.

Patricia Strand

Lutz, Lynn was only 67, so I don't think she died "of age." I suppose it could see that way to a 20-year old, however.

"staying alive" and "rip":- the RIP- internet-THREAD gun should be preloaded with all things we want to say -
like "bye im of now, thank God, tutty byes" and " cya sleaaze bags, u go rotting in hell" and " love u all my sweets xxx" and " you can have my tv big joe" and "say a prayer for me, water ma plants, ta"

and just let them fire off on the day we dont press the daily reset button, then we know who's breathin n breedin, n whos not... cannot fail! fool proof!! yah! RIP thread full of our own obituary, and done. closed. im claiming this concept i may seek to protect it now.another quality idea....

ALSO, everyone just check in, "i alive" each day, then button the lips untill u have well thought WHAT- sentiments about your garden hedghog, yo extra fatty legs and the colour run stuff TO POST THAT we lerv to hear! 😜😃😄😆

"Some artists" can vary from about 5% to 49%?

Live and let live.

April Moen

I told my husband he's not allowed to write my epitaph. He's not very effusive with praise, and it would probably end up being something like: "April Moen, she was alright I guess."

Janice Drew

To each his own...

I don't have any problem with people posting RIP or death notices. Beats the bullcrap that is sometimes posted here.

I love strolling through old cemeteries. Very interesting and much thought given to the person lying beneath those stone slabs. Modern cemeteries are headstones of statistics.

That Will and Jada story was false. Saw that on my FB news feed. Reba is getting a divorce though.

Mike, maybe the Houstons chose Westfield Cemetery for its natural beauty.

Dan,

I posted a link on the making of the song Alfie.

What's it all about? Alfie?

It was an absolutely fascinating video from 2010. It was Cilla's break through, her major work of art.
Alfie is a very personal song in the discovery of what sex means to any of us. I left off any crude discussions
of that out of respect.

Did you click on the link? Or just decide it was a dead end?

Dave
