What Mike said. Don't expect to sell right away. I've been on FAA for almost 6 months now and have sold a few small items until last month. It took me 5 months before I made my first print sale. Welcome and Good Luck!

Thank you for the feedback ladies. I'm not here to make a killing, but it's nice to know not to get discouraged. :) I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures.

Welcome Jessica,

Read the links Mike posted and follow his tips... He is very knowledgeable about this. And like the others have said this take patience and learning if you have never "sold" you're work in this type market before.... Also I really like this one...

Jessica,

Welcome!

This is a VERY competitive site and your images are not there yet. You need to just create more and look at other artist's work and try and create along those lines. Most of your images are snapshots and there are thousands of snapshots here and you will be among those. Find what you are truly passionate about, image wise and follow that passion. Don't create images that are easy, because buyers will see that. See what is important in each and every image and then concentrate and make it yours.

Good Luck!

Jessica did not ask for a critique of her images or their sales potential or what she should or shouldn't do to improve them.

Everyone on here started out somewhere and everyone on here can improve the work they currently produce. When a new artist drops by to say hello it is not an open invitation to opine upon and critique their work from our own individual view points.

Welcome aboard Jessica!

From one snapshot artist to another! lol

As JC says, everyone has to start somewhere and imho, you have a good start!

Always work to get better, to learn, to improve. Make every image the best you possibly can and then let the public decide if they want to buy it or not. The public is the best and the only judge of what they want to buy.

No one can tell you what images will sell or not. As you get better and learn more, you can always go back and reevaluate your older stuff and make any adjustments you want.

Not every image on FAA is destined to hang in the Louvre!

A lot of "snapshots" do sell here, much as that annoys some, it is a fact. There are no art police that can legitimately declare anyone's work as "snapshots” or what will sell or not.

My tip would be to make every image the very best you can and then YOU and only YOU decide if you want to offer it for sale. That way you will learn for yourself how to critique your own work and judge your progress.

Best of luck to you!

JC,

I think in fact she did request an "tips"

"Any tips or just a friendly hello"

And I think my words weren't "harsh" and were actually encouraging. Telling new artists that their work is "special", when it isn't, is doing a disservice to them and doesn't help in their growth. Pointing out where they can improve their work and showing "how" to do that, as I did, is also helpful.

Thanks again everybody for the kind words. Whether my work sells or not I'm having fun and loving the pics I take.

Great attitude and stick to that thinking! That will serve you very well as you move forward and grow at the speed and to the level that makes YOU happen. No one else's opinion will really count.

Like I said what other people refer to as snapshots, sell here all the time. Not everything that sells or what the buying public wants to buy has to qualify to hang in the Louvre!

Best of luck to you!

Welcome, Jessica, hope you enjoy your experience on FAA!

In Rich's defence (although he's quite capable of speaking for himself ;)), Jessica did ask for tips. Surely suggestions for ways to improve are more helpful than a condescending pat on the head?

Jane,

Thank you!

That was what I was attempting to do. Many times here, new artists receive kind words, but no critique of their work. The critique is generally more helpful than the kind words. Weeks, months later, the new artist putting up the same images and wondering why they haven't sold anything, forgets the kinds words.

We as artists, have a responsibility to encourage and support new artists and part of that support, is more than
"nice photos" and should include guidance and ideas, to improve their work. Especially, if asked for or implied.

We ALL started at the beginning, so I know I received critiques many, many years ago and that helped improve my art. Not always fun to hear, but invaluable...........
