Anyone Upgraded To Win10 From 7...what Is Your Experience So Far?

I have the free upgrade waiting on my task bar to be loaded. Not sure I want to do it yet as in the past I have waited for all the kinks to be worked out.

If you have made the change from 7, let me know how it has gone so far?

*actually, if you've upgraded from 8 or 8.1 how has it gone. I have to change all the computers at work which are on 8.1 so interested in how that has also gone for you.

Julie,

I think all will be well, but am waiting a week or two.

Julie,
I purposely listened to a few computer shows yesterday, hoping this would be the topic.
It was highly suggested that businesses wait 6 months. Just passing on what people far more knowledgeable had to say...and one is a company that will upgrade for you for a fee...

I also listened to a news piece about Windows 10 and the last thing they said was to wait awhile, until all the bugs are reported and then fixed. It's always the way with a new OS. I'm happy chugging along with 8.1 at the moment, so no rush for me. I did hear that it'll take about an hour to download/install with a fast internet connection.

And if this sort of thing freaks you out (installing an upgrade), the newswoman said the Geek Squad at Best Buy will do it for you, for various fees for in-store or in-home service. And they'll also show you the new features.

I've reserved the new version to upgrade from 7 but I'm not sure whether to go ahead.

I'll probably upgrade - when I'm forced to. I have Windows Pro7 - so perhaps when I have to buy a new computer and it's already on it - hopefully still a couple years or more away.

I upgraded. For me Photoshop and Bridge have frozen a couple of times. I never had that problem with Windows 8.. I do not see that as a common problem with others, so am hopeful I can figure out what happens.

My crappy computer won't upload ANY updates because something's gone wrong with the updater. Darned if I know what. :P

Thanks for telling us about the Photoshop issue, Dave. Maybe if I do manage to get my updater to work, I'll just update with Windows 8.

I happened to play with a Windows 10 laptop on Friday at Costco while waiting on pizzas to be ready, I felt it worked well for the brief bit of time I gave it, but I've also no problem with 8.1.

Paying someone to upgrade your computer seems like a waste of money to me. If it ain't broken, don't bother upgrading. At least not for 11 months.

If you have a lot of peripherals you want to wait until everyone upgrades the drivers, me thinks. Playing around with a computer at Costco isn't going to tell you if your scanner will have problems after the upgrade. IMO.

Upgraded from 8.1 to 10 on July 29th. Upgrade ran with no problems. No issues with any software or devices yet.

On my internet providers forums there are many complaints about installation freezing part of the way through upgrade, problems with sound card drivers. The general opinion is to wait a few weeks until all the teething troubles are sorted

my 7 works just fine. i downloaded that 6 gig file, but it will sit there unless i really have to update it. i don't see any real advantages.

Paul,

Thanks for the heads up.

Dave

I was on the upgrade wait list, I'm always ready to dive in to any new thing, but since my printer recently died and had to be replaced, that is enough electronic hassle for me to deal with at the moment. I plan to wait until everyone gives the "all clear" sign. I can't do business without my computer working 100%.

I have Windows 8.1, plan to upgrade to 10, I just need to get around to doing so. My husband has upgraded to 10 on his computer the day it came out, and so far so issues.

Still no issues with any programmes at all

Well it sounds like some of you have taken the plunge and have no issues except for one of you who's issues may not be related to the upgrade.

..and there's the Lot of us that like to sit in the bleachers and see which side is winning first before placing our bets ;)

I uploaded the other day...it took me about 2 hours...I did disable the security problem programs...wifi sense and cortona.... it's really easy to use. Doesn't seem much different from Windows 8

Who me worry?

The e-mail function seems to have issues with attachments at my side in windows 10.

You have a strange strategy Mr Mike,
Downloading a perhaps buggy version and then waiting to install this version at a later time...

Jason Christopher

im still undecided about being undecided, its a hum dum dinger, i ll just get bored being undecided and hit install eventually...

I upgraded last week with no problems at all, took about 2 hours for me.
Love it so far.

Yes a few things to consider before upgrading:
1. Most important - will my computer be able to handle windows 10? Meaning - if your computer is less then two or three years old yes. Older? It may slow considerably. Also check for hard drive space.
2. If possible wait until service pack 1 is released. As mentioned above, that will contain many of the bug fixes early adopters to win 10 are dealing with.
3. Some software may not yet be compatible. You may see some updates to products for updated drivers, etc now that 10 is out.

Hope that helps.

Mike.. my computer is 7 years old and runs just fine under win 10. of course you mileage may vary... ;O)
If you got the little win10 icon on your task bar before the launch it did a check of your computer for compatibility... hardware, not software..

Jessica Jenney

Bob, if your computer is 7 years old, what OS did you upgrade from?

Bob Galka

Well when purchased it was Vista, and I quickly updated it to Win7... then win 8 when Microsoft's offered a $15 upgrade special.

So to answer your question I upgraded from 8.1, but I know people that upgraded from win 7 with no problems.

I reserved the upload months ago officially through windows. As the date was near I received emails and when the official window icon appeared in my tray I proceeded the upload from 8.1 to 10 and have had no issues. In fact my computer is operating above its past normalcy everything is lightning speed. Grant you it took much longer for the upload they had predicted 2 hour or more perhaps with all my images I can not say but it took hours. I believe the total of 2,500 plus GB of new software and upgrades to drivers etc. I am a happy trooper!!!!!! I have read responses and did see on an official windows discussion tab they did not charge you for the upgrade because of consumer demand or response for the upgrade. Does this mean from this day forward all upgrades will be free I am uncertain about that but the new application is fantastic.

I did notice in another discussion someone's computer crashed I can only imagine the reason for that is because of some other sort of issues with the software on that computer and windows upgrade did not cause the computer to crash. It may well have been something hidden within computer programing that caused that persons computer to crash if that were the case many, many, many computer would also be crashing with the new upgrade or have new issues. All my

Michael... at this point Microsoft is saying the updates to win10 will be free... as long as it is still called windows 10 ;O)
But if you haven't gotten the upgrade before the free offer is over you will have to purchase the win 10 upgrade, just as you had to purchase the win 7 and win 8 upgraded.

But they are saying that the plan is to keep the OS know as Window 10 as the last version and just continue to with frequent updates...

10 years ago, after upgrading from XP to Vista on my HP computer from Costco, I still can never get Vista to upgrade to Service Pack 2.

But, like me, it just keeps ticking and doesn't know it's old.

Sometimes near the end of the year I'll bite the bullet and buy a new computer running 10.

John Harmon

I keep the OS that comes with the computer and just keep it upgraded. I will get Win 10 on my next computer

I decided to update from 7 Pro to 10 Pro (it updates to the level of your present system) due to some issues I've had with reading/burning DVDs and CDs. Took about 2 hours to download (slow DSL) with a minor hitch that was easily fixed. Installation took about a half hour. So far, so good. It looks a little different from 7 and uses apps, which will take some getting used to. All the software I use, including Photoshop Elements, seems to work fine. DVDs and CDs work a bit better.

Why change something that's already working fine? I will probably keep using Win7 until it isn't supported by MS or my laptop fails. Then again, I still have a laptop that runs Vista acceptably and a 6 year old dual boot netbook that runs winXP and Linux that I used for travelling only last week. If you're mainly using the web and cloud services why waste the time... It's not as if we're all six-sigma productivity chasers, this is an art site!

Just my two cents...
