Twitter Account Hacked

I next to never access my Twitter account but do have my new uploads on FAA show up in Twitter. Last week I received an email that my Twitter account had been compromised. When I went in to see what was going on there were tons of tweets that were most in some Middle East looking language. I began blocking and deleting the tweets but after an hour and seeing it looked it was endless I deactivated my account. I tried contacting Twitter to see if they could help me clean things up so I could keep my account there but was unsuccessful. Any ideas what I might do?

Not an easy solution deleting every tweet. You're probably just going to need a new account, with a new tag (the @thing - maybe with a number at the end).

Are you with gmail? Then it's fairly easy, because using dots you can have multiple accounts. (w.eirdone@gmail, we.irdone@gmail etc), but choose a strong password. Go to "How safe is my password.com" and check to see what it takes to make it safe. Use a mixture of alpha-numerics and doodads $,%,&,* etc

I'm not sure how you'd get your followers back other than to ask, just follow who you were before and hope, or gather new ones.

Then in your FAA images pages, you may have to edit each image without editing it, just to restore the Twitter content. Don't have to do it all in a day though.

Twitter offers two step authentication now, might be a good idea to use it.

Just an fyi (this may or may not be what happened to you) ...if you get a random Direct Message that says something like "look what someone said about you" followed by a link, do not click on the link. This is how I got hacked. Nothing as extensive as your situation....I was notified right away and just changed my password and have had no trouble since (it was about 1.5 yrs ago) I'm very careful about who follows me and the DMs. I don't follow those "I can get you 15,000 Twitter followers" type of accounts, even if they follow me.

That said, probably best to start over. I have found that whatever social media you're on, it's a good idea to check on it several times a week at least.

I have 19.5k twitter followers. I have no clue what they are saying. It does not matter.

Twitter is not Facebook.

Also contacting Twitter is doable, but not worth much. They will barely respond. Perhaps give you a new
account or some directions, but it is not often that you can really have a dialog with a Twitter staff person.
They are not manned up employee wise for that.

They are not Amazon who has to field customer questions.
And even at Amazon, they automate product reviews and questions instead of staffing for them. I get emails
from Amazon asking me to answer questions about a good sized product I bought last year. Forgetaboutit.

Take Twitter for what it can be to you. It is a highly experimental SM that changes the rules from time to time.

Thanks for all your input. I'm a bit lost in the Twitter world but question to you Dave.....when you have that many followers does what you tweet get lost in all the other tweets? I never did get to a screen where I saw anything I had tweeted. Does that sound normal? Plus the fact the Twitter notified me I had been compromised.
I am going to go back in and create a new account and start all over again. Plus create an even more complex password.

Is it Wes or Dotty?

Think of Twitter as fishing. You cast a net, but do not take on all the water. The ideas are many. You can cast for views,
You can hand out business cards so to speak. You can chat. You can research. You can marry up all of those things in many
different combinations and probably more that I have not yet thought of.

oh to see your tweets only or with replies go to your profile mug shot and click then click on your profile, the top selection.

That is your profile page.

BTW how was your account compromised? You need to know that. It might have had nothing to do with your password.
Could have been an app you used knew too much..ie like they also had some info or your password. There is compromised
and then there is compromised on Twitter, it does not mean much unless you give them a credit card number for ads. I do not
use their ad services.

About a week ago or so I got an Email regarding my twitter account and asked me to verify my account by logging in or giving my password.....I believe it was an attempt at hacking my account as the sender has araibic writing....I trashed it and did not respond

BTW ISIS members are the most active Twitter accounts by far.

Thanks all. Oh and this is Dotty. The email really didn't tell me much. And it didn't give me any links to follow which I wouldn't do. At the time I opened up Twitter on a separate tab and found all kinds of craziness.
I just went into Twitter to create a new account. So naturally it came up that I already had one using my gmail.com address. And when I tried signing in it popped right up and I could tweet on it. Plus all the creepy stuff is gone. I would have thought when I deactivated the account it would be gone. So confused.

Dotty,

The email you got first said your account was compromised? Or you trying to add a second account to one email address compromised
your account? If the first email was the issue, it could have been anything including a fake fishing attempt. Meaningless.

Try not to deactivate accounts. Twitter is all sorts of good and bad. The bad is a trash heap. So what?

It does not reflect on you.

Let me add you have several streams. Everyone else has several streams. Everyone's streams are completely
different depending on who they follow and what they tweet.

All tweets are at very different times, even if measured in seconds. Those tweets are then reconstituted into the streams.

Things come and go in time. Real time for the most part. But not only real time. If someone favorites an image, then they can come
back and buy it later. Or their followers can see their favorites later.

RT set up another layer of time and followers of followers seeing artwork over time.

What people see on your profile is only your tweets. That is important.
No matter how big a pile of rubbish Twitter is, your profile is NOT rubbish.

Now the stream you see with the tons of rubbish is not a stream seen in exactly
the same way by anyone else. They have their own stream of rubbish. So what
you see is not what I would get, I might have even more rubbish. It does not matter.

Over the din I want people to see my beautiful profile. Some do. The last tweet I put up today
has something like 70 impressions in 10 minutes. And a couple of link clicks to go to see my website.

now a bit over an hour the tweet has had 233 impressions. That means people have had at least a passing glance at it
depending on how far down into the steam they looked. Total engagements 11. Not bad for advertising for free for one hour plus.

Dave,
I just popped onto your Twitter account (and am following you now). I guess it's like Facebook, it was a mystery but I finally started to figure it out. The more you do something the easier it gets. Thanks so much for all your help.
So how do you get so many followers? BTW, I love those images with the sphere. Those aren't created in camera are they? They are remarkable!

Twitter is by far the best social media platform out there, but not necessarily for selling art. I do share my artwork (and retweet lots of other's artwork) on Twitter but that's not really why I'm there. It's only rubbish if you follow rubbish, the beauty of Twitter is that you can make it entirely your own. You probably don't want to follow me though, I don't use any self filters on Twitter. EVER. Be afraid... very afraid. LOL!

Wow, Susan, your work is incredible. So I won't follow you on Twitter (LOL) but I'll certainly follow you here on FAA.

Wow, thank you Dotty! And I admire your intellectual level of Twitter prudence ;)

Dotty,

Never pay for followers, but an app for $6.90/month to add followers is a totally different deal.

My spheres? Done in PS, not the camera. I am allergic to cameras. It is a very serious condition.

I believe my Twitter account was hacked. Can't log on, email address not recognized, therefore, I can't change my password. Twitter notified of this issue.

Hope your issue Julie is resolved. My account suddenly was all straightened up I'm assuming by the magical Twitter Gods.

Dave....There is an app in Twitter to gather followers for $6.90a month. That sounds pretty interesting. I too love taking pictures but not nearly as much as playing with them in the computer. I've done an orb but it doesn't look quite the same as your spheres. Those are simply incredible.
