Charging Electronic Devices Europe Vs Usa

Phones, camera batteries and more...are the outlets the same as in the US or do I need an adaptor of some sort?

You will need an adapter - where are you going? Here in Italy there are two types of outlets, a small two pin and a larger two pin.

Europe is not a country, you will need several adapters.

A good quality travel adapter will usually have several kinds in the one device

I'm going to France.

Where do I get a good quality travel adaptor. I need one in two weeks.

Our plugs are very different than yours ...in the UK. You can get them on eBay.

You even have your on/off switches upside down :)

No, yours is upside down and you drive on the wrong side of the road, but I love your accent. :-)

Does anyone have a favorite brand or company they like to use for this type of purchase?

The cheapo ones on ebay work perfectly fine for me, just make sure you get the european adaptor not the uk one, very different.

There are universal ones.... I have one that works really well, its just bulky, and not worth it if not going to the uk.

Be sure to check the electrical devices you are taking with you. Some of them may need a converter vs an adapter. Adapters just change the plug type so you can plug the same device into an outlet in another country. Converters handle the voltage difference. Most newer electronics you don't need a converter.

I haven't needed or carried a converter for years but several years back I had a friend who was traveling with me who killed the charger on her cell phone because she should have used a converter instead of the adapter she had. She only checked the voltage after and had several things she couldn't use. So, it pays to look at each thing you are taking voltage wise just in case.

Also consider bringing along a splitter or getting more than one adapter. If you have only one adapter and multiple things to charge, you'll play the game of swapping them out all night long. ;-)

I have one like this: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-3-Outlet-Charger-Protector-Charging/dp/B0015DYMVO/ - plug it into the adapter and you can charge multiple things at once - bonus it has usb charging plugs for those devices that can charge off usb.

This is all you need and what I use:

Most camera and phone chargers are multi-voltage. If you read the labels on your chargers, they will say AC 110V-220V or AC 100V-240V and will work perfectly in France

Jani, I have adopters from Dynex. I guess it is good to carry one in case hotel doesn't have it.
Most of the hotel I stayed, they had them there. This adapter is universal. You can change to UK, Europe, Japan.

I have the same one from Dynex - has multiple adapters in one unit.

BUT If you have more than one device be sure to bring an outlet splitter in addition. I had two phones and a battery charger going every night on a recent trip.
