Integrating Faa On Your Website

Hi guys and girls,
I am a new member to FAA and am loving it, so many talented and creative people around!
I have recently started up my own website to showcase my work ( www.jnpanimation.com ) and wanted to share with you a nice feature that FAA have set up.
If anyone is interested in setting up a website and selling their artwork I would seriously recommend using this widget as it is so simple, quick and easy to use!

I started my site up using squarespace.com, a great site for web templates which are fully customisable, they allow you to show galleries, videos, blogs, and so
much more, plus you don't have to be a whizz kid to set it all up as the coding as already done for you.

Once you have found your desired template, you can make a page, in this case it would be called Shop or Store depending on preference.
Then simply log into FAA and click on the shopping cart widgets which can be found in the Behind the Scenes Section underneath you name or profile name. (top Right)

Once there you will need to select the code which is already set up for you.

Then go into your site and simply paste the code into the code injection section of the page you've set up u'd hey presto you have an online shop that looks clean and professional!!!!

I would highly recommend this to any artist or photographer wanting to sell their work in their own unique way on their site 10/10 from me,
Thanks to Fine Art America :)

Jamie,

My take the widget is only okay. I used the AW in two places on a WP.org site I built.

http://bridburg.com

See prints for sale and organized by gallery

also see at the bottom of the homepage I have the two tabs as calls to action. In this way people will read downward and then be
asked again if they would like to see more prints.

Can you add statscounter, quantcast, or GA to a squarespace site?

Welcome to FAA! It's fine for those with several pages of images, but for those that have over 1,700 images, not so much.

Wow! A shopping cart widget? Who would have known! (LOL - sorry, could not resist.)

I formerly had the widget on my own wordpress install on my own self-hosted domain, but recently switched back to a link to the AW instead. However, I'm still indecisive about which is best and am considering going back to the widget.

I have Yoast on the WP install and am wondering if the embedded widget is included in Yoast's functions, and as a result, will provide for additional SEO benefits.

I wish somebody who fully understood the self-hosted widget vs. the AW link would post a list of the plusses and minuses of each.

I clicked on the visit website on the fas home page on your profile and your website did not display, You should add your link behind the scenes!

As I said in other threads, I use the shopping cart widget, and donīt promote my AW, for several reasons.

@ Jamie: I use Squrespace, too.

Colin,

What are some of those reasons?

For example, David:

1. FAA is a one-man-show. He can have an accident, become sick, sell the company, retires, ...
2. If you want to sell something FAA doesnīt offer, you need your own website anyway.
3. If you want to stop working with FAA, you can simply implement a new shop.

Colin,

I agree with your risk assessment, but having a tab for the widget v one or two tabs for the AW
all going to my website......well if I needed to go elsewhere tomorrow I would be up and running in a matter
of a couple of days. I would simply need to upload my images elsewhere and plug in the new URLs.

Not much of a challenge.

I stick to one fulfillment company so as not to compete against myself. It is next to impossible across these
different vendors to line up the prices. FAA offers the greatest selection of print sizes and materials that I know of.
Plus the forum is here.

Addition: I only need to advertize I am in one location. Big plus.

Cynthia, I absolutely love your site. The layout is clean and charming. And your source code is so tidy! (Sorry, I always peek under the hood.) I'm waffling between creating a site on Wordpress (which I hate working with) and coding my own from scratch but I don't think I could make anything this professional looking.

The widget integration is part of what pulls me in. I really like the way it turned out for the sites everyone shared. It works well on my Facebook fanpage https://www.facebook.com/looking4silverliningsphotography/app_309028460694 but that vertical scroll bar irks me. I forget it's there and then wonder why I only have 6 images on the page. LOL

I want to have everything under one roof - my roof!

There is no doubt, that the AW is a great feature, but although you can customize it a lot, itīs still a "foreign body". E.g. you have to open it in a new tab or window, because you loose your internal website navigation.

Another point is, that you canīt add additional content, links, ...

Folks,

Some of you need to run your sites on GTMetrix.com to know the quality of loading.

If your page downloads in over 2 seconds you start to lose percentages of who will stick
around waiting for the site. The testing is on a Desktop, but cellphones need even more time than
demonstrated.

The public is very fickle at times. You might consider if your site is being advertised in anyway that people
did not ask to see it, they wont wait. And if you go after fellow professionals, they maybe even choosier about
some of the standards. Time being critical.

You get very few images per page on a widget. That means lots of clicking, so I prefer to link to my AW

Colin Utz

Jessica, you are right. The widget isnīt perfect. There should be the possibility to show more pictures on a page, to open in gallery view, etc. But for me, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for using my site as an example.

I do it like this, when I link to the shop frome one of my gallery pages, like here (scroll down to the "Drucke / Prints" button: http://www.colinutzphotography.com/heilbronn-bei-nacht-photos

But there should be the possibility to choose the gallery view, like you can do on your AW.

Aww, Marybeth! You looked at my code. I am kind of particular about keeping it tidy. I could actually go in there and strip out some scripts I tried but didn't wind up using.

I started with a theme I purchased from Themeforest.net, and then stripped it down to what I needed. I purchase from there frequently; well constructed html and joomla and wordpress templates, easy support, fantastic prices. I really recommend that site for templates. Look in the "photography" category or the "portfolio" category for the best templates.

M E Cieplinski

Thanks, Cynthia! I was going to ask where you got your theme but I didn't want to seem too curious. (Not that peeking at your code isn't curious... LOL) I'm really picky about how the code looks, too. If it's messy it's so much harder to find what I want to work on. That's not perfectionist/obsessive at all. Right? 8-D

I'll check out Themeforest. That sounds like exactly what I need. Thank you!

great information! I am just trying to find the right website where i can imput all my items in One Spot and had heard Squarespace has one of the best for mobil device use.
As i have 2 videos about the process of making art on one site, products like pencil skirts on another, canvas &prints from this site and i love the new FAA products on the pixel site.So i've been checking out Weebly, Wordpress as well but would like to know the difference between the link and the shop widget and can you imput the use of (not sure what it's called) but seeing your art on the walls of the buyer home too?

Not to be a debbie downer but the integration between the square space and FAA seems difficult to navigate for shopping purposes..I think Squarespace is great, nice and clean but the shopping aspect is poorly executed..I would think someone would want to click on an image they like and then click to buy it..Unless I am wrong, Shopping on Squarespace is a completely separate page from a portfolio or gallery and you cant directly link there. I integrate directly, like I stated earlier, each image from my own website(zenfolio) to FAA.

"Shopping on Squarespace is a completely separate page from a portfolio or gallery and you cant directly link there."

You can! You can assign a clickthrough URL to every image.

Jon Glaser

Thanks Colin, I will look at it again . I really liked square but held off because of the click thru abilities didn't work for me at the time .

Colin Utz

The only thing is, if you want your pictures to open in a light box, clickthrough URL isnīt working. But this is the case in other programs which use light boxes, too. You have to decide: light box or clickthrough.
