What I Learned About Myself Voting In A Shower Curtain Contest

This is what I learned about my preferences when I voted on shower curtains. What I like in wall art is VERY DIFFERENT from what I like in a shower curtain. I don't want ANYTHING that looks dirty or messy in my bathroom. And NOTHING WITH EYES. I can't image walking into the bathroom at night, half asleep, and having eyes starring at me. Even pretty eyes.

No Thanks.

So...this experience was valuable for me in judging my own art and deciding what to market as shower curtains. Do you have any observations about what you would or would not like to walk into your bathroom in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning and see? I'd like to hear....

I painted this for my brother and sister-in-law. She loves it and he...not so much. I suggested she get a shower curtain, a tote bag, a duvet cover and a throw pillow. Love it bro, or learn to live with it...everywhere (say that last word with crazy eyes). That was fun texting my sister-in-law all the possibilities for this image.

Seriously though, I agree. Not all images are good for a shower curtain and even some of the other products. I would just suggest that you keep an open mind to some maybe working more than you think they would.

But the eyes thing...I agree. When I painted the above image in my kitchen over a period of weeks, their eyes seemed to follow me. Watch me. My husband felt like they were annoying guests in our home that just stared (never blinking...wait a minute...never blinking? Hmmm...kind of like my Avatar) you down and followed your every move. He was ready for it to be done when I finished it.

My problem is that I don't think my images are big enough to go on the shower curtain. Haven't heard about what the pixels have to be yet.

No eyes to deal with, but might only go for a bachelor or male. Certainly like any, it would have it's limitations. But now with everything changing, would probably fit the female population too, now that I thing about it!! Oh well-just loaded this and haven't come to any reasonable conclusions yet???

I see we can all have fun with shower curtain designs.

You just never know what might appeal to a buyer so don't judge by your own standards when posting the shower curtains. My shower has a door so I don't need one but if I did it would probably be something in neutral colors. I like a restful atmosphere in my bathroom. But someone else might like this quirky eyeball staring at them.

I favor simple, really simple, probably just a plaid or stripe and not an identifiable subject or scene. But if I had to pick from my stuff, I'd go for something like this"

I didn't think really "busy" deigns would work - but I sold my first shower curtain last night (evidently) to a fan of Ocean City, Maryland and a crowded beach.

BTW - this sale was completed on a mobile device and was directed to my AW because of a post I made on my Ocean City theme Facebook page yesterday.

I posted this one as my first shower curtain image. Water on a shower curtain seemed so ironic, but I've seen a lot of other people with the same idea.

As far as what I'd have in my own bathroom (if we had a shower instead of a claw-foot tub), it would be something colorful or restful, but no eyes, vultures, creepy little kids (awesome image!), or nasty bugs. Butterflies, maybe...

I agree, Susan! No eyes--or really, any realistic photo--looking at me in the bathroom. I prefer a patterned fabric. Frankly, I was not even all that excited about the shower curtains. It's not something I would ever buy for my own home. Obviously I am in the minority. lol

Maybe just me, I prefer plain one color shower contain and will not spent more than $20 for one.

No, no, no.... IF you are going to sell shower curtains, put all your images on shower curtains.. You don't who is buying for themselves, for others, for gag gifts, or just have a skewed sense of play... Susan.. I would probably not buy what you would buy and visa versa.. do not try to look into the mind of your buyer.. LOL

You Might put the odd ones in their own gallery perhaps.

@Alfred.. I bet someone would love this on a shower curtain..... ;O)

Well, I do have some that I think make attractive shower curtains....

These two just for fun:

But depending on the bathroom, these could be nice:

And Bob, love yours. I put MOST of my images on shower curtains. I have a few images I just don't think work on them and so null out. But when I do promotions, I feature some and just leave others alone.

IF I had to have one of my images on a shower curtain, I might choose this one.

I do think seascapes are nice on shower curtains.... Totally depends on the bathroom and lifestyle...
