Roar - The Most Dangerous Movie Ever Made

What a timely movie....

I just got an email from my local college film society - they'll be showing "Roar" this Sat. Anyone seen this? It stars a young teenager named Melanie Griffith and 150 lions, tigers and other large cats that basically chewed on 70 cast and crew members during the 11 year filming. Seriously even Melanie had to have 50 stitches on her face. It was never before released in the US but it is now making the rounds in a re-release.

Have not seen it, but I admire Tippi for founding and dedicating her life to the Shambala big cat reserve. You may not know this, but she also helped Vietnamese women learn how to do nails when they came to this country and needed working skills (after the fall of Saigon). She's a wonderful person in my book.

The Plot:

"Hank (Marshall) lives contentedly with his wild animals: four tiger cubs, two elephants, and 110 lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, and cheetahs. One day his family (wife and three children) arrive to visit him. The only trouble is he is not at home, but all his animals are. The visiting family is in for one shocking experience."

Tippi Hedren co-wrote the book Cats of Shambala (1985), about her experience of filming Roar.

Don't know if I'll get around to seeing on Sat. but if I do I'll report back. It was a flop when it was first released.

Lions and people in general do not mix well. So sensational films should not be allowed with such wild animals. Stop filming weak plots by adding animals to get attention!

I missed the show. Sounded rather nutty.

Ms. Griffith seems to have recovered from the stitches pretty well.

Their son was also in the film and was interview on our Canadian radio program recently, very fascinating and scary experience to say the least.

Was this smart? Or was this dumb?

I withhold judgement till after you see the film.

I dont watch any movies. And you wonder why.

The movie bombed when it was first released and 70 people were injured during the filming. I'm leaning towards dumb but I'm sure their hearts were in the right place.
